Breakfast for dc (no eggs or pancakes)

Trying to think of some better breakfast options for dc. Dd1 wont eat egg in any form (except quiche) and isn't keep on pancakes. We're a bit strapped for time before school and dd1 eats rather slowly so needs to be pretty quick also.

We currently just do cereal Shreddies, Weetabix, Porridge and Cheerios. I'm trying to cut back on the Cheerios but dd's get bored of the other three and won't entertain fruit in their cereal bowl.

I need some inspiration. Would beans on toast be an okay breakfast??

I think so. Would they eat tomatoes, honey, even hummus on toast? What about full fat fruit yogurt?

Chillyegg · 09/09/2015 09:13

Yoghurt and fruit and nuts or oatmeal
Occasional fruit smoothie
Crumpets

Brioche roll and a yoghurt?

Bunbaker · 09/09/2015 09:19

Toast with various different toppings.

My 7yo quite often has a cheese sandwich for breakfast. It's weird, but when you think about it why not? He has a cooked lunch and dinner, so it's not as though he's eating too many sandwiches. And I think the protein in the cheese keeps him feeling full for longer.

Banana on toast,
flap jack bars (oats, raisins and banana , no sugar or syrup neeeded. A batch will last several days),
raw brownie bars (dates, nuts and cacao powder, no sugar or cooking needed. A batch will last several days).

our staple is beans on toast, as you can use one of those snap pots, in the microwave for 1 minute, toast in toaster and go off to do other things without anything boiling over or burning. (DS also won't eat egg so feel your pain on this as it rules out loads of quick breakfasts / lunches).

Could you do a smoothie with banana, oats and peanut butter (maybe some cocoa for added chocolate hit) for them to drink as they walk if you're worried they haven't had enough?

I do Granola with greek yogurt & fresh berries in a sundae glass for my girls and they love it - trick is making it look good for them.

Have you tried French toast?

If you have time to do pre prep.

I've been making sweet potato, almond and apple wholemeal muffins that my DC love. Keep in freezer and put in the oven to warm so v easy.

Porridge?

And second the nut butters on anything!

Roast tomatoes and avocado on toast is my favourite breakfast but not as quick as cereal. Avocado smushed on toast with some lime and chilli flakes is though.

Kegeree - leave the egg out but make a batch and freeze in individual pots and microwave.

Go continental - bread, cheese, ham and fruit.

Have you got a toastie maker?

Rainbowqueeen · 13/09/2015 08:23

Avocado on toast is yummy

or Bircher muesli

What's your muffin recipe home

Breakfast Pizza - toast one side of english muffins (under the grill), slightly toast the other side then add slice of ham, slice of cheese and sliced tomato (if they will eat it or some decent ketchup on the side when served) and bung back under the grill to melt the cheese - really quick, really easy and really yummy. The brown wholemeal muffins in sainsburys work well for this. My DN loves them for lunch with a little side salad too. I have also in the past squirted some ketchup on the bottom of the muffin before adding the ham then the sliced cheese.

hello

how about some 'energy balls'? Sweet little balls of dired fruit and nuts - organic, no additives and vegan. in my experience kids love them.

A few balls of these with a glass of almond milk are really great and provide so much energy!

I have written a book with a different recipe for each week of the year - ordered by seasonal flavours.

Would love for you to check it out!

Thanks
