Help! Recipe for icing/ 'glue' for gingerbread house needed

I just bought a gingerbread house kit - I thought it would be fun to make (I doubt we'll eat it) with ds. It said it contained everything but when I opened it, there are no instructions on how to make the icing to glue it together - anyone got a good recipe?

TIA

Would normal glace icing not do it? Icing sugar and water?

apricot jam

you need to melt suger until it is boiling then use that to stick together it will be super hot so be carefull, then use normal icing to decorate it let it run down the roof so it drips off like icicles!1

If you aren't going to eat it use Yohoo or super glue

Thanks for the help. I've made these before and they've never stuck well so am tempted by the superglue tbh! Will try one of the sugar methods first.

Thanks everybody

I would melt some chocolate (preferably dark chocolate, it sets harder and faster), dip the edges that need to be glued in it and stick it in the fridge to set. Much more reliable than icing. You can cover it with icing/butter icing if you think the chocolate is unsightly.

I use royal icing and hold it all toether with cocktail sticks until it is solid, just remember to take out all the sticks afterwards.

I made one recently and royal icing worked fine. Might have to prop it up for 5 mins till it sets.

Chocolate unsightly blasphemy!

Thanks everyone. Great advice. I quite like the idea of a pretty gingerbread house with chocolate cement hidden inside. Yum!

Just adding to this 5 years later incase anyone does the same search as me - chocolate works really well - saw it on masterchef australia having seen the suggestion on here the day before so went for it. melted it in a microwave and assembled it by an open window at night - choc in bowl set before I even finished. dark choc was 30p from sainsbos. I used tins wrapped in tinfoil to stand next to the assembled sides while I worked to support them while choc set. Only problem was that the chocolated drips do not look as good as icing would.

You need melted sugar, melt in a fryingpan until liquid, dip your parts and they set instantly. Careful as it is very very hot to handle. If it sets just heat it again to reuse. Pan will wash clean if you soak it in water for a little while. For frosting use 1 eggwhite and 400 ml icingsugar. This gives you the perfect traditional thick frosting that sets instantly. Decorate as you go as the frosting sets on impact. GOod Luck!
