Jam in cupcakes

Hello all - I'm hoping to contribute a few cupcakes to a family party at the weekend. I'm planning on (once they're baked/cooled) spooning a small portion off the top and filling it with a spoonful of jam, and then piping the buttercream on top.

Would this work? I'm wondering if perhaps the buttercream and jam might merge and end up a buttery/jammy mess!

Any advice would be appreciated, or experience of better ways of including jam in the recipe. (I use the Mary Berry vanilla cupcake recipe.)

Yes, it works.

Use an apple corer to make the hole in the centre of each cake. Use a knife to 'top off' the jam so you have a flush surface, then apply icing.

It also works if you put the jam in before you bake them.

It works. Also works with lemon curd, Nutella etc :)

This thread has made me crave jammy cupcakes.

I appreciate that's not a very helpful contribution.

I use a wine corkscrew to pull out the core of the cup cake.

Lemon curd in cupcakes is the Best. Thing. Ever.
