Has anyone got a good idea for a dessert I can give for friends this weekend? Needs to be non dairy but want it to be something nice rather than fruit salad. But it needs to be something easy with little prep. Does it exist?

There are lots of cake recipes with no dairy. Is that an option? That does require prep, but you can do it the day before.

Or you could dip fruit in melted dark chocolate?

chocolateshoes · 23/11/2006 21:29

problem is we are out all day visiting friends the day before so prep is not going to be easy as well as cooking therest of the lunch. Like the fruit dipped in choc idea though or a fondue maybe. Ta!

Be careful that the chocolate is definitely dairy free.

My DD2 is allergic to dairy and likes apple crumble for dessert.

I wondered about crumble type things but thought we'd need butter for the crumble and also thought it might be a bit dry without cream, ice cream etc. Need to going shopping this afternoon & still feel clueless!

Sorbet? Or banana splits with sorbet instead of ice cream, some chopped fruit & "non dairy" cream?

You can make cake more than a day ahead, and keep it in a box in the fridge. Serve with fruit?

I have a good carrot cake no-dairy recipe, but it's a bit of work. If you look here , you can search by ingredient. Be sure to look at recipe reviews, though.

I'm dairy free and friends did summer pudding for us recently. You can buy one ready done to save effort, and put it with soya ice cream (called Swedish Glace, and very nice).

I do crumble with a dairy margarine. It works fine. Vitalite or Pure.

All my children love Swedish Glace.

Gillian76 · 24/11/2006 17:31

dairy free margarine!

Thanks you lot! Have never heard of Swedish Glace. Am visiting friends who have a massive Sainsburies near them tomorrow so will take the opportunity to try & find some. Thanks again!
