20 mth old refusing most food - any ideas to tempt him?

Could be down to teething, bit of a cold etc but seems to have been going on for nearly 2 weeks now. Just seems to refuse most things he normally eats, except milk and yogs. Bit of fruit now and again but thats about it, everything else he has a nibble and then spits it out or throws it on the floor.

Probably a phase I know - don't remember DS1 being this bad though!

Anyone been through something similar?

I posted the same problem yesterday with my 22 month old boy - see "fussy 2 year old thread". I got some reasurring comments and lots of useful advice, plus a really successful teatime tonight, although I am sure it won't last! You have my sympathies.

i use two soft spoons [you know those rubbery types] one i put food on for them and leave it on the tray for them to pick up and then when theyre chewing on that spoon i put another spooonful back on the tray with the spare spoon and so they drop the one theyve got and pick up the other one and so on..they like to feed themselves at this age and get easily put off food unless they are doing it i find!! plus they can chew on those spoons without it hurting their teething gums...plus try calpol about 40 mins before mealtime to take away the pain of teething to see if that does the trick..hope that helps

bambi I already do the 2 spoon thing - it usually ends up on the floor with the food!!! Guess I'll just stick at it.

My 21m old is doing this - was using a spoon, now uses his hands if at all. Have worked out this week that he's fed up with the high chair and wants to try out different seats so I've just been letting him potter about and putting his dish in front of him each time he sits somewhere. Hopefully he will reach a final decision soon.
