that's it really. My organic farm doesn't supply them nor the major supermarkets. I'm in Norfolk.

Here?

WigWamBam · 20/11/2006 13:46

Local butcher?

Or ask at your organic farm if they have any recommendations for somewhere else you could try.

MamaG · 20/11/2006 13:48

We got ours from our local butcher last year.

i have always wondered about capons

have never seen them for sale

are they better/nicer than chicken? are they expensive?

poppiesinaline · 20/11/2006 14:22

My mum always did a capon. Just big chickens, dont taste any different imo. I think they cost a bit more than a chicken. We get ours from a local butcher.

nailpolish · 20/11/2006 14:24

are they not castrated cockerels

poppiesinaline · 20/11/2006 14:29

yeah, i think so. None of us liked turkey so she always did a capon. Easier than cooking 2 or 3 chickens I think thats why she bought them.

PizPizPiz · 20/11/2006 14:30

yes they are nailpolish. They put on more fat so they're bigger than a normal chicken and the meat is more tender and savoury. Thanks for all the info.

I just asked my other fairly local organic butcher and he said that the process of caponisation has been banned for a while! Surely not since we can find some on the link that jackieno posted
