fruit that is.

not bothered about any arguements/debates on the ins and outs, it's just i've ben told by a medical person) that tinned fruit in juice is just as good as fresh - I didn't think it could be and was just wondering if it is infact or not?

surely the tinned doens't have the same nutritional values?

I think its because if its tinned very quickly after picking then it retains all the vitamins etc. With fresh fruit you buy in the supermarket it can have been picked a long time before you get it. For example apples are kept in cold storage for months.

oh are they I didn't know that, alwasy assumed they were shipped straight away and only spuds were kept

I back up what amynnixmum says. I see New Zealand apples in the stores over here all year round yet the apple picking season only runs from Jan-April over there (knowledge due to student orchard jobs )

I think maybe with tinned fruit & veg you have to check what has been added eg sugar. Must admit I'd always assumed fresh was better but haven't really examined the tins.

i think tinned fruit is like frozen - it retains vitamins but i suspect some leech out into the juice. i find canned fruit very handy to keep so there's always something tasty for dd even in darkest winter when supermarket fruit is rubbish
