My DD has just been weighed and has lost 10ozs in weight in the past 2 weeks. She has been off her food for a few weeks, but this past week had seemed to be getting better. She has just cut her first tooth, but has had the "runs" for the past couple of weeks, and a really bad cold (runny nose) which has now turned into a bad cough. My HV said she isn't worried about my DD, but I am! She has 3 meals a day and 3 bottles a day. Should she be eating more solids than milk now? Any advice, I'm worried sick!

sounds like my dd

went 9 days iwhtout eating any food at all , only having milk in the summer. she loses weight easily & gains slowly....HV is not worried about her either!

if my DD is poorly, teething or in a bad mood..she doesn;t eat ( sadly, i am the opposite!!) so she is petite and now she is so active, she really needs every calorie!

i make her little meals, but calorie rich, so every mouthful counts..

eg scrambled egg with a lump of butter and some cheese in them

toast with butter

hummous inside mini pitta breads

cream cheese on crumpets

etc......

don't wory...some children are just made to be petite.....

also DD is far more interested in what is going on around her to eat much and she is far too much of a talker to concetrate on food...it is just not a priority for her...

keep doing what you are doing and try to relax...xxx

Thanks for that. My DD is happy and sleeps well, so I guess I should stop worrying, but I just find the whole feeding thing so stressful. I am going to try and make more home-cooked meals for her and see if that makes a difference as she doesn't want to eat any baby food from jars at all now.

Its nice to know I'm not alone! XX

agree with lulumama - it's awful when they don't eat but they will not starve themselves!

good calorie rich food suggestions there.

let her eat what you are eating...(unless chicken vindalooo...))

i used to sob at the lovingly prepared food i had slaved over being ignored after one mouthful...so basically fed her off my plate!

xx

She does seem to eat if I give her food off my plate, but I'm afraid I only eat really crap ready meals. My idea of cooking is heating something in the oven for 30 minutes. An example of my lunch would be potato waffles, covered in grated cheese and topped with baked beans.

I am trying to improve though, and I made a beef casserole from scratch the other day which I served with boiled potatoes and DD loved it. Just off to try making macaroni cheese now, wish me luck!!

I also think a lot of baby food is pretty boring, dd2 went right off jars and bland things but will happily scoff houmous or spicy stuff!
