Last night one of DD's friends came round just as I was serving up the childrens' dinner. I asked her what time they eat their tea as this often seems to happen. She told me that they eat really late. At this point DD pipes up 'yes and they eat stuff that they can eat outside'. I was thinking 'sandwiches maybe'. 'What's that? I asked'. 'Noodles in a plastic tub' DD announces. 'They smell really nice and you make them by pouring water in!'. She was seriously impressed.

So DD's friend and her 2 brothers eat pot noodles for an evening meal and they eat it standing around in the street so they don't have to stop playing with their friends. That offends me on so many levels ...and my DD thinks it's great.

Oh god..... where have I gone wrong

DD, on opening a magazine in the Dentist waiting room to be faced with a heavily pregnant and as usual, scantily-clad Jordan - thre'penny bits spilling out all over the place....

My favourite one was a friend of mine going into a chip shop for her own dinner, to be faced with a lovely young lady telling the chip shop owner that the kids were having pot noodle and chips for dinner that night. Carbs with your carbs anyone?

Yum! On that subject why do people think that tinned spaghetti is a veg? Burgers, chips and tinned pasta.....odd.

It's the official English diet: carbs, with a side of carbs, some shaved carbs on top as a garnish, with carbs for dessert.

I am from Canada. It isn't cold here!

We manage, somehow, in Canada, to survive actual winters, without needing to be put on a carb IV drip!

LOL at NQC's carb obsession - have noted on other threads!!!

I think we are getting better. I think it goes back to WW2 and rationing as I have noticed that my MIL's generation are big into their carbs with carbs meals. My MIL just doesn't enjoy lasagna if it doesn't come with chips!

Carbs are filling and cheap.

May be a WWII hangover thing Budabeast. I know that I still have some bad post-rationing habits that I picked up from mum and dad - eating everything on my plate when I'm not hungry/not enjoying it is one I've only recently managed to break. The war generation had an excuse I suppose but not the rest of us. Potatoes were one thing that you could always get in the war.

BTW nqc - my previous comment was tongue-in-cheek. I know it's not that cold but 'keeping the cold out' was a reason for all the starchy food when I was a child.

I work with a French lady who insists that she never had to watch her weight before she came here. Puts it down to all the bread that gets eaten in the UK.

I'm not a great fan of spuds - I mean they're OK but I can willingly live without them - my mum ( God Bless her and all who sail in her ) is a Crap cook and can't get her head round my spud aversion ( and us Irish an' all !!) so on the infrequent occassions she actually cooks for me she gets all apnicky about what my "spud substitute" can be .... so last time I had ..... wait for it .... chops, veg, gravy and a side helping of tagliatelle carbonara Gotta love her really !!
