What wine are you drinking?

I'm into Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc, particularly Oyster Bay or Nobilo.
Dh is into red, not too fussy.
We have friends around this weekend and I'm wondering what to get
What do you like?

none at the mo, it is 2 o'clock

Whites - like New World Sauvignon Blancs (like you)

Reds - I like ones with nuts - rioja and merlot in particular

Sparkler1 · 10/11/2006 13:56

What now??!! At the moment I'm having a nice cuppa tea.
Nah I know what you mean. I prefer a red to a white myself. Get a couple of each to be on the safe side. I don't go for a particular named bottle as such just tend to buy whatever has the best price (ie normally £9.99 now £4.99 etc).
I have heard though, not sure if it's true, that the deeper the dent in the underneath the bottle the nicer the wine.
HTH

Stuff made from grapes. In a bottle. Or box.

Right now I would KILL for a large glass of wine!

Quite like Yellowtail Chardonnay though

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 13:57

Normally £9.99 now £4.99!
Which one is that then?

OP posts:
Sparkler1 · 10/11/2006 13:58

You can get them - just have to look hard. I usually shop in Tescos or Asda they always have something on offer.

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 13:58

Oh yesssss. I had some yellowtail stuff recently, but I think it was red. That's quite nice.

I had a cracking red recently, but I can't for the life of me remember what is was. I'm sure it would have been on 'special' though

Said on Saturday Cooks or something that these wines SHOULD be priced at £4.99 (quality wise) but some supermarkets inflate the "before" price to make you think you're getting a real bargain.

Mind you, like I said, I have been known to drink Asda's £9.14 for a 3 litre box of house white before now (Not all in one sitting I hasten to add!)

Iklboo · 10/11/2006 14:00

Oh - and the Wolf Blass wines are really nice - both red and white.

Most I've ever spent on a bottle of wine from a shop was £12.99 though

chocolatequeen · 10/11/2006 14:01

Another point on buying wine - all bottles of wine pay the same level of tax, whether the cost price is 50p a bottle or 50 quid. Therefore, a bottle of nasty old tat that only costs 50p will retail for about a fiver, but one that costs THREE times as much (ie still only 1.50) will only cost a little bit more, about 6.50. IYSWIM. (can´t find a pound sign...)

I live in Portugal, so am drinking white alentejan wine at the moment. Very nice. If I was back in the UK though, I´m a bit of a rioja girl too.

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 14:04

Very interesting chocolatequeen, I shall bear that in mind.
Dh tends towards Merlot but they are always too 'heavy' for my taste. Does a Cabernet Sauvignon make make me soft?

Iklboo · 10/11/2006 14:04

STOP IT!!! I WANNA DRINK!!!!

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 14:14

I'm thinking the same.
I'm going to nip out a bit later and get the ingredients for dinner. I'm going to do a slow cooker casserole, so I think I'll need to get a 'well-rounded' red.

I've got a box of Muscadet (white French) on the go, the last one of the stash brought back from holiday. It seems to go very quickly!

joelallie · 10/11/2006 15:43

Wet stuff. In a bottle. But not now tut tut!!...Got to wait until I pick up DD from her sports club at 4 at the earliest.

Probably 4.05.

Iklboo · 10/11/2006 15:45

Ha ha! Just despatched DH to go and get some in for tonight. Yay!

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 15:50

I've just asked dh to pick some up as he comes home from work. He should be in just as I put the kiddies to bed.
Will have to come back and see how we are all getting on

OP posts:
Whizzz · 10/11/2006 15:58

any

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 20:14

Budget conscious dh brought home a Sauvignon Blanc - a Chilean one. It's okay but it's not like my Kiwi wine

fairyfly · 10/11/2006 20:15

Peanut Grichio

foxinsocks · 10/11/2006 20:16

I'm drinking beer at the moment but I think we have some of the Wolf Blass Cab Sauvignon (the yellow label) to drink (one of our fave easily drinkable reds) over this weekend.

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 20:19

I've had a glass and not eaten anything yet. So I'm feeling rather fine

OP posts:
Sheraz · 10/11/2006 20:30

I find ozzie wine too heavy. like cotes de Rhones ( villages) not too heavy but quaffable, or a rioja.

saltire · 10/11/2006 20:34

I like lots of different wines - currnetly drinking my way through Rivercrest white, a californian wine, which was on offer. It was 3 for £10, normally £4.99 each. its very nice. Have also just had some called echo falls, which was erm, can't remember, think it was USA as well.

doormat · 10/11/2006 20:36

couldnt give a hoot
as long as it gets me rat arsed

SherlockLGJ · 10/11/2006 20:42

I have just survived the infants disco, so I rewarded myself with a Guigal Cote de Rhone, very yummy, slipping down nicely.
