Just wondering, got the pasta, got the tom sauce thingy, what else can u put in it - i'm looking for somehting boy can have as well as finger foods, somehting that's cheap and also will fill DH up.

also are u ment to boil the pasta first or not bother? all meat's in the freezer so have sausages easily avaliable but thought that would be a bit odd? also got peppers, mushrooms, toms, herbs etc, was gonna put some motzorella on the top as well for good measure.

any thoughts/ideas would be appriciated.

thanks.

you've got it done! chicken is a nice one + all your other ingredients. If you want to make it extra tasty pour some double cream in

schneebly · 09/11/2006 14:37

chopped up sausage would be nice in it with some mushrooms and peppers - cheese on top sounds good too - can I come? I dont think you need to cook the pasta first.

foxtrot · 09/11/2006 14:39

Sounds yummy, cook the meat first tho'. If its a jar of pasta bake sauce it will tell you on the label whether to cook the pasta first.

speedymama · 09/11/2006 14:41

I would cook the pasta first. In the past, when I have just added it, the pasta was too al dente for my taste.

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/11/2006 14:41

Hi Munzie - I wouldn't use the sausages personally - not the best flavour combo (unless they're chorizo sausages), and poss a bit salty for Joey.

Tomatoes, herbs and peppers will all go well though. When you say you've got the 'tom sauce thingy', are you not just making it from the tomatoes and veggies?

Yes to boiling the pasta first - just leave it al dente so that it can absorb a little bit of the sauce too.

You could also add stuff like sweetcorn, and tuna (though again watch the salt). Courgettes also go really well, and we tend to use aubergines too.

yeahinaminute · 09/11/2006 14:42

Cook the pasta til al dente
Make up a sauce cube the sausages, chop the onions add some garlic and whatever else is hanging round fry together, add the tomato gloop and then pour over the cooked pasta, mix and bung the cheese on top ....bake for 15 - 20 mins and hey presto !!
Get forks and dive in - Enjoy !!

Works well with chicken, salami, fish etc etc !!

munz · 09/11/2006 14:48

god that was a quick responce! thanks girls! lol.

csws - they're just tescos sausages so I've not given them to J due to the salt content - althou I guess I could cook it all up, take some out for him then chuck cooked sausage in for another 5 mins or so whilst his is cooling down to eat for me and DH?

will add some s/corn as well this time - will save the chicken for monday's pastas bake after our roast on sunday witht eh left overs if that makes sence! lol.

first time trying it out so fingers crossed comes out well! lol.

If you were doing that wouldn't you have to put his in a seperate dish in the oven? How old is he?

munz · 09/11/2006 14:54

he's only 8.5 months so to me far to young for sausage yet, but I do wait for his food too cool down b4 feeding it to him iycwim. (would it need to be cooked seperatly?) it's a jar of sauce. - in fact will have to check the salt on that as well.

Well I just didn't see how you could add sausages to it after it had been in the oven for a while. I would definitely check the jar - I'm not sure on things like that.

munz · 09/11/2006 15:15

ok salt says 0.2g for every 100grammes (3.5 oz) i'm assuming that's too mcuh?

Bozza · 09/11/2006 15:16

I don't know. Have you any tinned tomatoes?

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/11/2006 15:23

Limit is 1g salt per day for Joey, so depends what else he's eaten. Note that most tinned tomatoes have salt in too (though I'm informed that Tesco Value don't have).

munz · 09/11/2006 16:03

erm today all he's had is some mixed veggies, (no added salt as I made them so just what ever was in the fresh veg iycwim) erm, ready brek for brekie and 2 soldiers, a rice cake snack. and this afternoon he had a carrot stick snack with a few blueberrys, so don'tt hink there's any salt there - or jsut trace the snacks I give him are those organix stuff.

DH doesn't want sausage added. do have tinned toms yes.

tbh thou after the pasta's added to cat it I doubt he'd have 100g of the pasta in all - and I'm not adding salt to it, so should be OK shouldn't it then? (it's 1.0 isn't it not 0.1?)

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 09/11/2006 16:08

Yes it sounds fine then Munz (yes it is 1.0 not 0.1). The soldiers will have a little salt btw, but not much, and you're right, it's unlikely he'll have anything like 100g, so will be well within limits.

munz · 09/11/2006 16:11

in the bread u mean CSWS - I didn't realise that - should havethou! right then first proper meal as a family (normally boy has his first ) got it cooking now, smells lovely.

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/11/2006 16:20

Enjoy .

Am sticking a breadmaker on my Christmas list, so I can make it without milk or salt (or I could just try eating cardboard instead ).

MascaraOHaraIncredibleSheHulk · 09/11/2006 16:21

I wouldn't recommend adding a hamster..

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/11/2006 16:24

I don't know though MOH - would add a nice crunch .

munz · 09/11/2006 17:32

lol. MOH - just saw that thread - she's gotta be having a laugh!

csws - boy wouldn't eat it - he was retching tried 3 peices but thought best not to offer anything more incase he was sick everywhere was lovely thou.
