Snacks & drinks

Hi, I am a first time mum of Zach who is 11 months old. Luckily he will eat most things and eats three solid meals a day as well as a bottle morning and night. I have read in a couple of books that he should be having a couple of snacks a day as he is now more mobile. He seems to be quite content after each meal and in between meals
so am reluctant to start giving snacks until I have to. Also I have not introduced any other drinks other than water, which I must say he drinks more on some days than others. He has wet nappies and a poo every day so am happy that he is not dehydrated. In a nutshell should I be giving him snacks at his age and do you think I should be offering him other drinks other than water even though he is not dehydrated? Sorry this is longwinded but as a new mum I would value any advice.

In my opinion, Linz2, he is fine on just water to drink, and the longer you can keep it that way, the better. He only needs milk or water. Snackwise, I found snacktime a good time to get some fruit in, an apple segment or a couple of bits of banana.

Welcome to mumsnet, anyway!

As long as you think he is happy and not getting hungry/grumpy before a meal stick with what you are doing. From what you say he sounds fine.

My DD still only drinks water and milk. Has only recently been interested in our cartons of chocolate soya milkshakes! She also for ages seemed content with just meals so I occasionally gave her a small rice cake. It was only as she got older (12months plus) that I gave her a couple of snacks during the day. These are mainly rice or oatcakes, fruit or dried fruit.
