Mystery: mould on slow cooker?

My slow cooker seems to have recurring penicillin type mould on it. I haven't used it for a month as I just get rid of the mould but then it reappears. Sad The ceramic dish part. It follows hairline cracks in the glaze iyswim. I wonder if food has got into the ceramic behind the glaze somehow.
It's washed in hot water, dried, left to air dry and put it away. The cupboard is dry and none of the other kitchen equipment has mould.

Anyone else had this? Any cure?
Do I just need to give up this one and buy another?

I use it to make casseroles etc which I give to my baby so am cautious about nasties.

I'd buy another. I'm fairly skanky but I wouldn't use a dish that had mould growing out of it. And they are relatively cheap unless you've got a really swizzy one.

Yeah that's my thinking. At first I thought dh hadn't washed it properly and it was food mould but it's the dish isn't it?? Urgh.

If you're planning on buying a new one anyway, could you try popping the dish in a moderate oven for a couple of hours?

Might help to kill whatever is growing in there if it's brought up to a high enough temperature for long enough. It may grow back, but it may be enough to get problem under control...? You haven't lost anything really if the dish breaks.

You shouldn't use anything that has a crack in it for this very reason, chuck it and get another one. The crack could get worse anyway and split when you are carrying it so not a good idea to continue to use it.
