Are you rich, posh and clever?

I think I heard it right. The Christmas Iceland ad where Karry Katona says something along the lines of 'I used to think you had to be rich, posh or clever to have a buffet'.

Ffs. The British attitude towards food verges on the pathetic at times. Rich, posh or clever to put some bits of food on plates. Aye right.

Artichokes good if it turns into a food fight, though, Sally!

Ooh, I am not rich or posh but am not thick either and I love a good buffet (not dodgy chicken drumstick and sausages on stick affairs). Think sushi, tapas, beautiful salads and breads etc etc

peanutbutter · 09/11/2006 09:14

"....rich, posh and clever are not the words I particularly associate with 'buffet'. Buffet makes me think of chavvy parties and family Christmas all crammed into the house on different sized chairs."

That's us then. We have a small house and when we gather together for Christmas we have to borrow chairs; so we're all crammed into the house on different sized chairs. Several aunties squashed onto a sofa; children dotted here and there on the floor; uncle on a pouffe (sp?) and dad always on the hard chair in the corner.

We have buffets here and there, too. They're hard work, I find, and certainly can be more expensive than cooking a meal, but they're fun imo. We must be lacking a certain... je ne sais quoi then. poor us

0/3

pointydog · 09/11/2006 16:48

Now jools, your opinion of what constitutes rich, posh and clever might vary considerably from Kerry Katona's. So don't be downhearted.

You pays your moneys you takes your choice at Iceland, just like anywhere else.

I remember when they were the first to go 100% organic on their own brand frozen veggies, on the basis that they sold so many they'd have the buying power to make the organic market more mainstream and hence more affordable. Don't know if they've stuck to that. Nothing wring with their frozen fish; or frozen leg of lamb... all wholesome, affordable, practical 'proper' food.

They get their bad reputation because of their 'feed the family for a fiver' multibuy deals that they plaster all over their window - those are always cuisine a-la turkey twizzler.

oxocube · 10/11/2006 10:29

Personally, I would love a buffet made entirely from Waitrose or Marks and Sparks 'party foods'
