Age 6 - he is now refusing anything hot - says it hurts his tummy. Tea tonight is now marmite sandwich (wholemeal bread), ham and raw carrot.

Normally he will eat sausages, shepherds pie and chicken. Only veg he will eat is mashed potato, peas and carrots.

What do I do? I am fed up of offering him things to try and he just refuses point blank!!!!

Anyone else with a picky eater?

Perhaps you need to refuse point blank to feed him anything other than what is being served for dinner - he could always wait to the food cools down before eating it.

Sounds like a perfectly balanced, if slightly eccentric meal. I would just go with it. Does he eat fruit? If so I wouldn't worry! It's a phase - ignore it and before you know it, the next phase will be along.

yes - shall do that tomorrow - just gave in today . Thinking about it, he normally does eat his dinners virtually cold anyway.

Just today he refused point blank to have the lovely chicken and veg I had made the effort to cook!!!!!

Thinking about it, there are two approaches. IMHO, the important thing is not to get into any sort of debate about it, or the situation escalates. You can either serve a meal - one that he has liked in the past, leave it in front of him til everyone else has finished, then remove it without comment or give him a plate of sandwiches and carrots and apple, and once again remove without comment when everyone's finished. It's the "without comment" bit that's important. Try not to make an issue out of food. Very hard I know, it feels like such a personal rejection when they won't eat the lovingly prepared meal you've made, doesn't it!
