Processed Ham alternatives?

My 2 year old has always been happy to eat meat but just lately she has started to refuse it which has left me a little concerned about her protein intake.. As an experiment I gave her a slice of rolled up 'packet' ham yesterday and she absolutely loved it. She ended up having 3 large slices. I've always avoided this to be honest as it's processed and contains all sorts of nitrite type additives/preservatives. Does anyone have any ideas on alternatives at all? I was wondering if the 'off the bone' ham from the deli counter might be a better choice? Or can I boil a ham joint and slice it myself or something? Any ideas would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Thing is it's still got nitrates from the curing. I think curing your own ham would be a hugh fearnley whittingstall Step too far!

How about finely sliced roasted meat?

You could make your own breaded chicken.

Buy those chicken tenders thingys, then coat with egg then breadcrumbs or panko. Then cook in the oven of in a frying pan.

Or you could make meatballs. With chicken mince, an onion and a peeled apple.

Blend them up then roll in flour then fry.

It's probably the lack of meaty texture she likes.

I boil a ham joint often we have it hot one day then use the rest over the week for sandwiches it works out alot cheaper and yummy not full of rubbish would she eat chicken roasted ?

we just have boiled meat, i.e. cooked chicken slices.
when we have a roast of any kind we finely slice leftovers for sandwiches.

anyway, does dc eat veg? many are high in protein, esp brassicas and beans/pulses.

Well I have cured my own ham. It takes a lot of salt and 4 months. So could be a long term solution.
