Am making a lasagne

BIGlilBUBU · 03/11/2006 15:10

The mince says defrost for a minimum of 12 hours in the fridge. I only just noticed that, i've had it out on the side for about 6 hours. Its never going to be defrosted in time for me to make the lasagne for dinner. Any tips on what I can do?
If I do get round to making the lasagne how long does it need in the oven and what temp?

if the mince has been out for six hours it'll be fine. open the packet and break up the mince into smaller bits - that'll help it defrost quicker but tbh it shouldn't take too much longer and if it's not quite defrosted when you throw it in the pan don't worry it'll defrost in time.

cook it on about 190 for about 45 mins

have you got a microwave?

sideways · 03/11/2006 15:14

I used to cook it from frozen all the time when I was a student. As long as you keep breaking it down and make sure it's properly cooked, it'll be fine.

BIGlilBUBU · 03/11/2006 15:30

I've broken it up into little bits and put it on a plate. The outside of it has defrosted but the insides still frozen. Still got an hour or so before I start cooking. Thats for the tip wannabe1974.
I have got a micrawave Twiglett, can I syick it in there if its not completely defrosted by the time I start cooking?
Didnt know you could cook it from frozen sideways. Did it taste ok?

stick it on defrost for 5 minutes. Thats what microwaves are for isnt it?

BIGlilBUBU · 03/11/2006 15:39

Thanks...ok one more question.
White sauce, Iv'e made it succesfully a few times but I cant remember now the order you put the flour and milk in? Does it matter what flour you use?

oxocube · 03/11/2006 17:22

How's it going BigLil? In the oven yet?

BIGlilBUBU · 03/11/2006 17:39

Yes its in the oven. Going ok but I just had a look at it and the pasta sheets on the top have gone really hard, almost burnt.Im sure thats not ment to happen.

Did you finish up with a layer of sauce and cheese? If you have lasagne sheets on the top then they probably won't be that great (though just take them off - the rest of the dish beneath will be fine)

oxocube · 03/11/2006 18:21

and cover the rest with foil to stop it drying out!

BIGlilBUBU · 03/11/2006 18:26

Just put some cheese on top, I took the top layer off and the rest looks yummy. It should be ready soon. Didnt see the tip about the foil. Should i put foil on before i put the cheese on in future?
