I would say it depends on who will be drinking the milkshake and how good the eggs are... for children, elderly and pregnant women I would say no. Much the same as eating a soft boiled egg. But if it's for adults with iron tums, why not.

I have heard that recent reasearch shows that eatng raw egg protein is much more digestible and causes way less allegic reactions in children than eating a cooked egg. I also have been told by some medical proffessionals that the fear of salmonella contamination is only present if the egg comes from a chicken that is unhealthy. apparently as far as stats go the average infected egg is only one in 30,000. so eating eggs that come from healthy, cage free chickens who are feed a healthy organic diet the odds are removed. I've also been informed that in a raw state the egg yolk contains more biotin than when it is cooked and that biotin acts as a defensive against contamination. Egg yolks have one of the highest concentrations of biotin found in nature. So it is likely that you will not have a biotin deficiency if you consume the whole raw egg, yolk and white. Funny how sometimes with a bit of research you answer your own question.

If you use eggs with the lion mark (most UK eggs carry this) then they should be fine - they come from hens vaccinated against salmonella, so there should be no risk with the eggs

Personally I would never eat a raw egg... but that's just me.

im from australia. so the eggs we eat are actually from our own hens. I've heard some mixed things in regards to shop bought eggs though.

If I had my own hens then I would eat a runny boiled egg for sure. But if I can't guarantee the source I would steer clear. You are lucky to have your own hens!!

I would use our eggs raw as I know where my chickens ahve been but probably wouldn't trust shop bought ones. Use the same common sense as if you were pregnant - don't eat raw or undercooked agges if pregnant ill or vulnerable to infection.
