Sponge cake for beginners

Hello,
I used to buy a really great sponge cake in a cafe, it was very moist and had chunks of peaches or apples in it. Not sure if this type of cake has a proper name, it's probably just a fruity sponge cake but I'd love to make it. Do you have a recipe to share that would be manageable for a beginner? (I have a slow cooker, maybe it'd be the answer to that very moist texture?)
Thanks a lot

You could try googling "Dorset apple cake" recipes? That's the only sponge cake I can think of with apple in it...

I use this recipe for Dorset apple cake. It is my husband's favourite cake ever.

Thank you lola it doesn't look as moist as the one I have in mind though. It was almost as soggy as a clafoutis base but definitely not as eggy. I might still bake the Dorset one :)

was it some sort of drizzle cake?
as in has some syrup drizzled over it when still warm?

No drizzle. The top was a bit more like the fruit side of an upside down cake but not as neat.

I've made Spanish apple cake before and it was lovely, it's actually a baby led weaning recipe

helloelo · 08/04/2015 08:27

Oooooh kanyes it could be it, let's try!

Did you get a chance to try it yet? Now that you've reminded me about it, I think I'll have to make one too!

I've made this Country apple cake before.
