April Cookery Book Club - Diana Henry

Welcome to Spring and Cookery Book Club. This month we are testing Diana Henry's recipes from her many books and online recipes.

I have her new chicken book, A Bird in the Hand, and have made one of the spiced thigh dishes, it was good but not memorable as I can't remember the name Blush will go back through the book and let you all know later. For those without any books or access to them through your libraries there should be recipes online.

Some of us were so enthralled by Made in India that we will still be reccing those recipes too.

I don't know if we have the conversation about next month's book yet.

We've done Mexican food made simple, which went down well, but not any of her others.

This week I've done a beetroot, orange and goat's cheese salad from Roast figs sugar snow, which was tasty but not spectacular, and a farrowing with roasted roots from a change of appetite, which I'd say the same about. Liked the farrowing though and that's new to us.

Have you done Ottolenghi? I really fancy his style of food at the moment - probably because of Summer approaching.

Yes Jerusalem and Plenty but I think a reprise would be popular, especially of Jerusalem

Ottelenghi has a new book - More Plenty I think - I agree you can never get too much.
Also think we should revisit Jamie and Nigella, I'm sure they have loads of undiscovered gems.

Yes, I am up for trying new books but a 'revisit favourites and try recipes you overlooked' session might be good? I was given Plenty More but haven't tried anything yet - despite loving his other books.

I'm still here, just been lurking rather than posting as I've not got the books.

I am meal planning from Plenty More right now!
I would be very happy to cover it in book club, but felt a little greedy asking to do so as we have revisited Plenty so recently Grin

Would love to revisit Jerusalem as I never had the book the first time round as I assumed it would be all meaty - a lot of it is, but some of my favourite (veggie) meals come from that book :)

As for Thomasina Miers - I love what I have made from Mexican food made easy/simple (can never remember what it's called!), but don't feel I need to revisit it, I have pretty much made what interests me. But I wouldn't mind having a go at another of her books - think she has at least two more, if anyone could recommend anything? :)

Hairy bikers - anything of interest there? I have nothing of their's but the library is bulging with their books.

We've done the curries one - I was surprised by how much I liked it! :)
Not sure if we did any of their others?

Reading Plenty More now - loving the recipes.

We did the diet one too. Someone did a list a while back, should dig that out.

Ok, maybe it's time to prise Made In India from my fingers. (Although I'm planning on trying the Lamb Raan on the bbq on Friday!)

My BIL had Jerusalem given to him at the weekend and I had a peak. It looks like a fab book Smile

Ooh yes also tempted by the raan. Did the pea ball things on Sunday. Finland tasty but you need a lot of patience for the shaping!

OK, so next month how about we have a Middle Eastern month? We could revisit Jerusalem and Jewelled Kitchen, and Claudia Roden. And also cover Persiana and any other ME book that appeals? giving you all an excuse to buy more books Grin Wink

Middle Eastern month sounds great to me. I love jewelled kitchen, and Jerusalem, and also have rodens arabesque which I've not used at all in the year since I bought itShock

I've not made the most of this months choice, but I do think Diana Henry's books are great. Loads I want cook but haven't got round tooConfused

That said I tried the Indian scrambled eggs from change of appetite and really didn't like it. Dh ate mine. After toasting and crushing my cumin ( whilst looking at the ground cumin pot which was goading me throughout) I wanted a really special breakfast/brunch but it was not for me.

Agreed on May (though we're off to Malaysia for most of it so doubt we'll manage much cooking with a jet lagged 2yo!)

Love the idea of Middle Eastern month. I have all Ottolenghi's books, would be interested in other recommendations. Will ask MIL and SIL about Claudia Roden, they may have some of her books.

There doesn't seem to be much support for Dan Lepard. But I was thinking bout following his method to make bread by hand. Always using the bread maker. It's something I want to tackle.

I have plenty more and have barely cooked from it.

If it's middle eastern then actually Diana Henry still fits. A lot of her recent books are very Middle Eastern inspired.

The only hairy biker I have is the curry one and we just did curry last week.

As for Diana Henry. I did the teriyaki chicken with pickled vegetables and sesame seeds. We served it with rice. It's lovely and very refreshing, very spring. The pickled vegetables worked very well with rice. We are making it again this weekend to use up the mooli.

Oh I also have persiana but haven't cooked a thing from it.

Didn't like Thomasina's Mexican made easy. I haven't put the book into a charity bag to make space for newer purchases Blush
