Has anyone got a good recipe for cereal bars?

I want to find a good, basic recipes for oat-based cereal bars. I have tried three recipes in the past two weeks.
The first one was so sweet that it was more like a confection - it made my teeth ache.
The second one included a banana and eggs. It was not too sweet but horribly stodgy, like a failed cake.
This morning I tried America's Test Kitchen crunchy granola bars. They taste great but they are way too dry - I thought I was going to break a tooth.

So if you know a recipe for cereal bars that are just a little bit chewy (but dry enough to keep well), please share. Smile

Do you want sort of a flapjack vibe?

These honey and peanut butter booster bars are a current favourite in our house at the moment. Link

Imeanlikeseriously I would like something with less fat than flapjacks (I love Soupdragon's flapjacks but I would weigh about 300lb if I made them too often Blush). But why not add just a little bit of milk / condensed milk?

Indrid they look lovely but with 125g butter for 200g oats, aren't we in flapjack territory?

I have seen lots of recipes I would like to try, but I cannot afford many more failures (you cannot find cheap oats in the French countryside).

Yes, they are very flapjacky.

Energy Bars

250g Porridge Oats
1 x Can of Condensed Milk (I use the healthier version)
125g Mixed Nuts
125g Mixed Seeds
100g Cranberries
75g Mixed Fruit and Nuts

• Put on your pinny!
• Weigh all the ingredients
• Stick it all in a bowl and mix together
• Put in a tin 20cm wide, 30cm long and 4cm depth (I am guessing)
• Bake in the oven for 60 minutes (130 degrees)
• Leave to cool then cut into squares
• Sit down with a brew and scoff the lot!!

I just use a total of 450g mixed fruit, nuts, seeds and coconut. Can be varied to suit your own personal taste.
It burns quite easily so keep an eye on it and cover with foil when you think its brown enough.

Absolutely delicious though and well worth making.

Similar recipe here lots of nuts etc so high protein and fat, but filling. Use home brand cheap as chips muesli.

Thank you - both revipes remind me of Nigella's breakfast bars. I will give them a try.
