Loose leaf tea - do any actually contain proper tea leaves?

I'm a big tea fan, and I have recently acquired a lovely tea pot/infuser. I've tried a few loose leaf teas (yorkshire, sainsburys, waitrose) and the tea leaves are all tiny little granules, like you would see in a teabag. They're so small they get through the holes in the infuser and I end up with them in my cup. And I can't see the leaves before buying, because they're all in sealed bags.

So lovely Mumsnetters, is there a brand of loose leaf tea that has bigger bits of leaf? Like the ones I remember from my childhood? That won't cost a fortune? Or has tea generally gone rubbish?

Thanks in advance Brew

Mmmmm... well, we use loose leaf tea, and apart from the obvious ( proper Darjeeling and Earl Grey ) the leaves are all a bit that way ( its virtual dust in tea bags) We do a tasting about once every 6 months to make sure there isn't something better out there. At the moment its Waitrose Gold loose leaf, but M & S breakfast tea was good as well, ( but only buy it when on special offer!)

By the way - I'm afraid we are old fashioned - no infuser, and a tea strainer if we have guests, (we just leave the tea leaves at the bottom of the cup normally!)

We have at least two proper tea (leaf) shops locally and the leaves are quite big once hydrated and definitely not dust. Everything I've tried so far has been lovely.

Thanks all! That gives me plenty to be going on with.

And I'm also going to adopt agoodbook's 6-monthly tasting strategy - a fine idea Smile
