I need to cut down on the amount of bread I eat to reduce my weight. I don't have milk on cereal so don't like many. What do others eat. Or do you have a nice museli that isn't too expensive or maybe its homemade.

I think Im making up for not eating any for the last 9 months as it made me feel sicker.

raisin and cinnamon bagel topped with mashed banana, it's not very low in calories but it does keep me filled up til lunch time and it counts as part of my 5 a day.

I am really bad with breakfast and skip it way too often. I am trying to be good at the moment though, and I am taking ceraels with me to work to have once there, with a cup of tea. This week I have been taking 2 Oatibix biscuits.

porridge
or
one slice of homemade granary with poached egg
or
lean bacon grilled with mushrooms and tomatoes
or
2 slices of toast with butter and marmite for those days when you need toast

I HATE milk and cereal, how refreshing that somone else does too. Can't do porridge either - sorry. So, I only do this when working and have only just gone back to work ... sorry guys it's fruit. BUT, I cut up an orange or two with grapes or kiwis or similar long lasting stuff on a Sunday night when I'm still feeling efficient. Put it into tupperware with a bit of apple or orange juice blah and then take that to work and leave it in the fridge there. Then I take a fresh banana in every day and slice it into that day's portion. That's the key ingredient for me as it's filling. Over the summer I've kept the box at home and dished out a portion that morning and put extrta strawberries in or whatever's in season and will be nice also as I'm doing D's lunch. Think it would probably be nice with yoghurt too if you were that way inclined. It's a great big bowl full though and deffo gets me through till lunch.

Does no one eat pastries these days or is it MN social suicide to admit to it?? I like a bit of crunch myself, so if I don't have porridge, I eat oat granola with low-fat greek-style yoghurt. But Sunday is croissant day, drool...

DH & I both need a good hearty breakfast to set us up for the day. We hate having the same meal for breakfast every day so rotate & mix these foods (ensuring one carb & one protein & one dairy usually) to vary what we have:

  • Homemade granola with milk, yoghurt or cream and various fresh or dried fruits
  • Bacon
  • eggs (fried, boiled, or scrambled)
  • Sausages
  • Fresh fruit salad
  • Yohurts (plain or fruit)
  • Croissants
  • Toast
  • Fresh fruit juices
  • Crumpets
  • Bio Biz (organic weetabix type cereal) & milk
  • English Muffins
  • Cheese
  • Salami & similar cold meats
  • Pancakes with various fillings (sugar & lemon, apple, cheese & mushrooms etc)
  • Fried mushrooms
terramum · 03/11/2006 21:51

Forgot to include Porridge (usually with honey or golden syrup)
