High Tea ideas

Next weekend we are having a family get together for Mothers Day. The original idea was afternoon tea. We now think thatwe should have it as a sort of afternoon/high tea so it will be a more substamtial meal.

My sister is hosting but we are all taking things along.

I want to take at least one savoury thing and one sweet. I have loads of ideas for something cakey but am stuck with the savoury. All I have come up with so far is a quiche.

Any ideas gratefully received

Home roasted ham? Easy to do.

Cheese scones and fruit scones - savoury plus sweet but essentially the same ingredients and can be baked together.

finger sandwiches?

Mini quiches would make the meal more substantial

Sorry, I mean more substantial and look prettier than a big quiche.

momb · 06/03/2015 11:45

take along some tiered cake stands: all food is more substantial when tall!

A side of salmon, home made potato salad with bacon.

Thank you, some lovely ideas.

I have a tiered cakestand, I can check with my sister if she wants me to bring it. I think there will be sandwiches anyway as the original idea was just afternoon tea. I particularly like the idea of little quiches.

I will check with my sisters what they are all doing.

Nice sausage rolls (Apple and pork?) or scotch eggs with squidgy yolks would be nice.

Little filo open tartlets would be nice, they could be vegetarian, fishy or with meat. You could do sticky chicken drumsticks with a honey and sesame type glaze. Little fish cakes or crab cakes with a sweet chilli dip would also work.

Nigella's honey and sesame roasted mini sausages.

Mackerel pate.
