how to eat chocolate

I asked my DH just now to bring my chocolate through (lindt 90%). He did, then fetched his through (chocolate orange) and started chewing a segment. I told him chocolate isn't for chewing, it's to be left in the mouth to melt slowly. He replied "I have to chew. I can't just wait for something to happen." Maybe it's a man thing? Do any of you chew chocolate? It just seems so wrong to me, like gulping large amounts of tea or coffee.

I chew chocolate, I suck it, sometimes I practically swallow it whole. The right technique for the right situation, that's what I say.

You also have to consider the chocolate Lindt 90% nice mouthfeel, tastes of chocolate as opposed to cheap chocolate disguised by orange flavour. I know which one I would want to rush!

I would chew chocolate orange, it doesn't melt properly and leaves that fat film in the mouth. Decent chocolate like the Lindt 90% melts properly and is not to be chewed!

Definitely chew. But 90% chocolate is a different beast altogether. I can't stomach the stuff. Maybe it is because I tried to chew it? Might give it a go and leave it on my tongue to melt!!

I just shovel cadburys in my mouth so far have had a picnic bar and small com! (disclaimer: have had a bad day). Not keen on anything above about 60%.

Silverjohnleggedit · 05/03/2015 20:59

Definitely need to chew something like a fruit and nut - even when it's 60% otherwise you don't get the combination of flavours...something smooth it doesn't raeally matter. A mug of tea helps though!

Chocolate orange doesn't melt. It is too full of palm oil or whatever they have added to it now to make it taste waxy. So he would have to chew it.

I wouldn't be able to eat anything over 60% cocoa solids though. It loses it's attraction to me after that. It needs more sweetness for me to enjoy it.

The funny thing about the 90% lindt though is that it does taste sweet. Well, I find it does anyway. I used to eat all kinds - divine milk, divine orange, lindor. But I gradually went to higher percentage chocolate over the years and the sweet stuff has lots its attraction now. So maybe it just becomes delicious if you've acquired a taste for it over a long period of time! The 70 and 85 ones seem more bitter and way less creamy, even Black and Green's, so maybe it is worth a try for those of you who don't enjoy 'dark' chocolate.
