Most filling breakfast?

toffeeboffin · 03/03/2015 15:17

Seen a few people on here who are of the ‘porridge doesn’t fill me up’ camp and I have to admit I am one of these people too!

Even though I love porridge, I do find that I need a second breakfast around 10am.

The most filling breakfast for me is a three egg omelet and smoked salmon but during the week I don’t have time to prepare this (also, at 7am I don’t always feel like fish for breakfast).

I sometimes have porridge and a boiled egg but find that I still have the munchies around 10am and have to snack anyway to tide me over until lunch.

So, please tell me your most filling, last until lunchtime (as in from 7am until noon) breakfast ideas.

I don't eat breakfast but try to do filling breakfasts for DS because he's always starving Hmm he does eat porridge, I add chia seeds and sunflower seeds for bulk. Banana and peanut butter toasted wraps, scrambled eggs and baked beans, smoothie is food with banana or avocado base, baked chia doughnuts (batch cook in advance) American style vegan pancakes with chia and flax. Almond butter and honey on toast. Protein seems to help!

Thanks Americas that's good advice, I agree that more protein is the way forward!

Like the sound of peanut butter and banana toasted wraps especially!

Weetabix with a sliced banana and yoghurt on the top :)

Porridge made with half water / half milk & honey on top leaves ,e hungry come 10:30 but if I make it with just milk (almond milk is my fave) and add a tsp of almond butter and perhaps just a small handful of fruit then it definitely keeps me fuller longer. Agree protein is key.

Flourless muffins? Egg, cheese and anything you like chopped up, bung in the over for 15 minutes. I make them on a sunday night and take them in and eat them cold for breakfast for the rest of the week.

I made Dds waffles this morning. buckwheat and some coconut flour.

served with blue berries banana and a drizzle of maple syrup.

managed not to hear a single " I'm still hungrrrryyy" for the whole morning g.

assuming they were filling Grin

and for the health freaks, 2 tbls of maple syrup in ^the entire" batter which obviously wasn't all eaten so not as unhealthy fir breakfast as it sounds

Have you seen those egg muffins, you just microwave them in a morning so as quick as anything and filling like an omelette would be? I'll try and find a link, wait a sec

Few other good ideas too

Bacon sandwich on wholemeal toast

Thanks so much for all the tips!

More protein definitely makes a difference, and even using full fat milk makes porridge more filling!

Definitely going to try buckwheat and coconut flour, heard Smile good things about both and I really am trying to avoid white flour as it just bloats me and seems to add pounds instantly!

When I lived in France I used to have loads ham and cheese for breakfast and skip the baguette, always felt dead full until lunchtime.

I don't feel full on porridge either, even made with milk, but I make my own muesli - porridge oats, some oatbran, raisins/sultanas, sunflower seeds, and bashed up all almonds/walnuts/pecans. It isn't too expensive to make, works out at about £3 a week, and I find it keeps me full and I don't see my energy levels drop so dramatically either.

Fevertree · 05/03/2015 11:43

toffee, sorry don't want to sound silly, but why don't you eat ham and hesse for breakfast now?

toffeeboffin · 05/03/2015 14:13

Fevertree, that's a bloody good point!

The place where I worked offered free breakfast and it was awesome, really good cheese and naice ham. The amount of ham and cheese I would have to eat would cost me a bloody fortune if I bought it myself!

Definitely might start having some in the mornings though, along with my porridge : )

Full english breakfast.

trixymalixy · 09/03/2015 04:03

If I eat porridge for breakfast I am totally stomach rumblingly ravenous at about 10.30. If I don't eat breakfast I don't get that hungry.

I've started buying packs of cooked chicken for my breakfast on my way to work, which keeps me satisfied. Protein is definitely the way forward.

frikadela01 · 18/03/2015 10:02

Is there actually anything wrong with having a snack (say a piece of fruit) at 10ish anyway? Agree if I have a breakfast of porridge and banana at 7 I'm hungry by 10 but short of eating till I'm stuffed and bloated I can't think of many meals that would keep me going (especially at work) for the 5 hours from breakfast to lunch without reaching for something to nibble on in between.

panevino · 19/03/2015 12:44

I often make a frittata (this week with courgettes and feta and 10 eggs), slice it up and keep in fridge to just grab in morning, great to eat on the go or shove in a tub to take to work. You could do one with smoked salmon in it, if that's what you like, or anything else you have to hand.
