Just a ponder really. I noticed that John Lewis & several others, due to health and saftey, are no longer alolowed to heat up your homecooked food for you, which means we now have to give our babs jars if out. I dotn have a porblem with jars as I ue organix which is the closest to my food and i tend to give her the fruit ones for dessert anyway. It just seems hard to give her hoem cooked food out as I have cassreoles & fish things that need fully heating. I tend to use a flask and heat jars up when out but you cant do this with your own food with protein inc. I just wonderedd what others do out. I also am a bit frustarted that companies like JLP or other shops for that matter dont provide some sort of feeding station with bottle heaters and a small microwave as does IKEA. Im turning into a right militant mum and wish to write to places to do this , as I would like to be able to give her my own food rather than have to pay for jars. Although saying that JLP do give free jars if you eat there. Sorry goin on about john lewis just went there on Thurs!!! The problem today is we are going to a park for a picnic and there is nowere to heat stuff and I have to give her jars all day, unless I just give her my own vegs, but I have to add milk and cheese to up her dairy as she isnt keen on drinking it, . I just wish places were more child/ baby aware or that someone would design a walking battery operated heater thingy!!!!

God what a ramble, I havent had brekki yet so brain not fully in gear!!!!!

As it is just one picnic in the park couldn't you skip the added milk/cheese for once? How old is your dd?

Furball · 25/04/2004 11:34

Could you not take a flask of boiling water and use that when you need it?

I always used to take big dessert jars on trips out etc, that way Ds was happy as he got apple/banana and custard crumble or whatever and I didn't have to faff about trying to heat things up.

suzywong · 25/04/2004 11:38

as it's just one day, and presumabley you woud be only having two out of three meals al fresco, couldn't you just skip the dairy/meat for that part of the day?

DS2 is 8 months - if we're out he has 2 cold jars - one savoury, one sweet - like it or lump it. DS1 (2y3m) just eats bread

Melsy my ds twins have always loved chopped fruit when out and about. They are fussy little sirs in regards to eating al fresco so this was my answer. I take a little plastic knife and whatever fruit I have (grapes and strawberries are still favourites although now they are older I don't need to chop as they can fit some pretty big strawberries in their gobs!)

We went swimming this am and I didn't have time to give DS cereal. I ended up with a bowl of Heinz organix cereal with strawberries whilst sitting in (yes, I know but they had fab high chairs)Macdonalds). They will not heat milk up in their micros as they would blow up a normal bottle of milk. However, they are very helpful and heat your bottle up in hot water. Made me feel quite bad really as usually put Babes food in Microwave for 25 seconds, not what Gina recommends!!!!!!!!!!

Jaybee · 26/04/2004 10:04

I always used my own food - if we were out and about I used to take a flask of boiling water with me and added a bit to the food to take the coldness off it and they had it like that. If we were out for a day I would also take finger foods, bread sticks, pieces of cheese, soft pizza, pureed or chopped fruit, cooked pasta spirals, etc. etc.

I really am a bad mum...DS used to get his food unheated if we were out
