Is there any experienced bakers out there to offer advice?

Hi all,
I'm making a Bradford City football shirt cake for my dad's 50th next week and could do with some useful tips.
I've done a test run of the actual cake and that's great, but really struggling with the stripes for the shirt...what's the best way to approach them using roll out icing? Am I best covering it with one colour and then laying stripes on top? Or should I cut out strips and cover the cake that way?
Not sure if I've explained myself very well at all, but thanks in advance!

I would definitely cover the cake in one colour and then put stripes of the other colour on top. If you have the time you could put buttercream all over the cake first and then pop it in the fridge. Once its chilled its really easy to get a nice smooth surface for the fondant icing. Hope it goes well!

Have a google on how to crumbcoat a cake, then cover all in one colour. Add the stripes afterward its much easier

If you have a pizza cutter you could cut the stripes out with that.

I'd airbrush it. Is there a cake decoration shop near you that could rent you the equipment?
