Beef-free bovril!

MorticiaRed · 25/10/2006 13:11

Oh no! Bovril now has beef stock in it again, so it is a no no in our vegetarian house. Used it loads to beef up (pardon the pun) stews etc., Also used it to make a lovely low fat gravy. Does anyone know if they are still going to make a vegetarian alternative or what else I can use? (Already use marigold bouillon). Thanks! x

What about Marmite? I just checked and it says its suitable for vegetarians and vegans. hth

MorticiaRed · 25/10/2006 14:42

Thanks. Did wonder if marmite would make a stock. Will have to try it. x

Another veggie here, I have always used marmite for recipes-it's not unlike bovril. Or the marigold bouillon, theres also Roast vegetable oxo granuals, which thicken the sauce up at the same time.
Good Luck

Thanks, Wisp. The really good thing about bovril was it was low fat. The granules are a dieter's nightmare. Will try making gravy with marmite! x

Bisto granules are veggie too. Not sure about diet benefits tho!
