Half and half

I've just received the free ice cream maker for my Kitchenaid so ive decided to have a go at making some ice cream this weekend.

One of the ingredients I need is half and half, the book does say this is 10% fat cream, but I can't remember seeing this is the shops. Does anyone know where I can buy it from or if there's another name for it?

I think half and half is single cream. Heavy cream is double.

chowhound.chow.com/topics/301309

The link above works out half and half as 15% and UK single cream as 18% so it should be fine!

dementedpixie · 20/02/2015 20:10

Apparently you can substitute it with half cream, half whole milk

In Belgium half and half is Half white wine half champagne. unhelpful

Ringsming · 20/02/2015 20:13

(Sorry was trying to cross out unhelpful but failed! So looks a bit weird!)

It's a north american thing- we have it here in Canada - it's a light cream you use for coffee.

3 parts single cream to one part milk would be a good sub i'd say

wriggletto · 20/02/2015 23:19

Could be worse, ringsming - round here it's half chips, half rice (with curry).

When I was growing up (in the Netherlands) my mum would ask for Half and Half at the butchers.
It was half pork mince and half beef mince.

I though half and half was half cream and half milk

iklboo · 20/02/2015 23:25

Yep - half rice half chips. Now THAT
would be interesting ice cream.

Half icing sugar and half ground almonds in France.
