corrina28 · 23/10/2006 22:41

you can add other things, ie, mushrooms cheese etc, but what you have got is fine.

Nothing other than some cheese to grate over the top if you fancy it. I add in all sorts of veg, but it can certainly be done with those ingredients. (You might need a little cornflour or flour and water to thicken the mince mixture though).

hairymclary · 23/10/2006 22:43

yes, of course you can.

WelshBoris · 23/10/2006 22:43

well dont take my advice then Mandy

You eat your cottage pie without a cottage in it, see if I care

MandyBOO · 23/10/2006 22:43

i could add mushrooms and grated carrot - sound ok?

MandyBOO · 23/10/2006 22:44

WB - if i had a cottage i would add it for sure!

You can, but personally I would throw in some diced carrot / broccoli etc for hidden vegetables, and a stock cube and some herbs for flavour....

Aero · 23/10/2006 22:45

Getting yummier by the post!

i always do grated carrot, a chopped onion, an small stick of celery if i have, a large dollop of tomato puree - if not - tomato ketchup, 2 tbsp of flour when browning the mince and half a pint of stock. I always attempt to chuck in something extra like a chopped courgette or peas or something to up the veg content.

Shepherd's pie is made with lamb mince and cottage with mince, or at least, so I've heard. No guarantees that that info is correct.

handlemecarefully · 23/10/2006 22:47

cottage - beef
shepherds - lamb

hunkermunker · 23/10/2006 22:47

VVV makes gorgeous cottage pie.

WB, you make me larf.

Aero beat me to it, but given her uncertainty at least I gave her credence - eh Aero?

Aero · 23/10/2006 22:52

Ah - yes indeed. Thank-you hmc. I will rest better tonight (after packing my suitcases for the half-term visit to NI to see the folks) for knowing for sure! (Gee- I'd better get off here, or we'll never get away tomorrow).

handlemecarefully · 23/10/2006 22:53

Aero - you didn't sound all that sincere there!

Have a nice break

VeniVidiVickiQV · 23/10/2006 22:58

Aww thank you Hunker

Yes - forgot about the Worcestershire sauce - vital!

Aero · 23/10/2006 23:00

Lol - meant to add one of these. or perhaps one of these . Sincere is my middle name - honest guv.

I have credence now and the next time someone asks re shepherds/cottage pie, I will answer with confidence.

Now someone tell me to get packing!! (please smile])
