What is the lowest GI bread out there?

Not about to start making the stuff, but wondering about things like Vogel. Have been told I have high blood sugar so need to cut refined carbs (ARGH) etc. TIA.

The lowest GI will be the bread made with 100% stoneground wholemeal and possibly some wholegrains and seeds added. If you're comparing the nutrition panels look for the highest level of fibre per 100g and the lowest level of sugar.

Thank you - that is great. I heard it needs to be called 'wholegrain' not 'wholemeal' bread which confuses me.

Burgen soya and linseed.

I also get good results with the very solid German rye bread (Biona, Schneiderbrot and Mestermacher brands in my supermarkets).

You can't rely on fibre content or carb counts solely. There are a lot of different factors like fat and protein content, how finely it's ground, how long it's fermented etc. Wholegrain bread can be high in sugar for example. A lower-carb higher-fat seeded bread like the Burgen (or if the Vogel you mentioned is easier, I think it's similar) is far better. And don't just have a slice of bread, have it with beans or cheese or something.

I just checked with Vogel and apparently their soya & linseed bread is about 49 which sounds good to me. I know German rye bread is probably the lowest, but I really hate the taste! Good point about adding protein when eating it. I am trying to do that now much as I love it with lashings of honey
