Why did no one tell me about....

.... silicone baking sheet liners? Years of expletives scraping precious delicacies off non-stick baking trays that have suddenly turned 'stick' could have been avoided. That noise you hear is my hand slapping my forehead....

Anyone else made late in the day cooking discoveries?

Oh yes, they are great.
A couple of Silpats are my favourite 'You got a new kitchen' present.
Not so much undiscovered in my kitchen, but forgotten - I always forget that a garlic press exists and is in the drawer and chop the garlic up then remember as I'm cooking it. Every time.

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 01/02/2015 19:40

Which particular ones do you recommend?

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 01/02/2015 19:41

A properly sharp small grater for nutmeg, mincing garlic and zesting lemon. I was doing it on my old box grater for years and wondered how people got spoonfuls when I only got a smear of smudgey nonsense.

Actual life changing.

and again, hardly new fangled!

CogitoErgoSometimes · 01/02/2015 23:49

Yes, the microplane grater/zester is another one. Years of scraping mangled lemon zest off the inside of box graters. Crazy

Sorry Suzy - just saw your question.
I usually get this size of Silpat:
www.amazon.co.uk/Silpat-2-Inch-Nonstick-Silicone-Baking/dp/B00008T960
But looking on Amazon there, I've seen some other silicone liners that look worth a shot too.

I have silicone cupcake cases which are brilliant.

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 04/02/2015 20:22

Thanks Smile I have silicone cup cake cases already and love them!

I love the Lakeland Magic Oven Liner. Cut to size, I use at the bottom of the oven and the grill tray. Wash clean and will even go in the dishwasher.
