... what the hell do I give BabyDragon to eat?

Incredibly p-ed off with this whole weaning lark as it's such a thankless task and I can't be ar$ed any more. Have no enthusiasm!

TutterIckOrTreat · 17/10/2006 13:23

how old is she soupy?

lulumama · 17/10/2006 13:24

how old is she

Babylulu likes scrambled egg on wholemeal toast ( butter & a smidge of marmite) or tuna sandwiches cut into cute shapes

or a pcnic of pasta shapes, cheese, cut up apple etc...

it is a bit of a PITA when 80 % of the food goes on the floor....

SoupDragon · 17/10/2006 13:26

8 months.

Right, first suggestion was scrambled eggs so that's what she's getting.

she just has no enthusiasm for eating anything! It's a PITA. (she's fat and tine BTW, it's just me who's p-ed off with the whole faff of trying to find something she'll eat.)

OP posts:
lulumama · 17/10/2006 13:27

has she had egg before?

nailpolish · 17/10/2006 13:28

my fallback if i just couldnt think of anything was a tin of spag hoops and grated cheese

or an omelette cut into strips

(omlette when finger food was the preference)

SoupDragon · 17/10/2006 13:30

hehehe - she has had egg before, yes. NOt on its own.

Erm... scrambled eggs, it's egg, milk , microwave it and whisk with a fork isn't it? I don't think I've ever made it!!

OP posts:
Gobbledispook · 17/10/2006 13:31

melt dodge of butter in pan, stir in splash of milk, pour in whisked egg and just keep stirring with wooden spoon.

nailpolish · 17/10/2006 13:31

scrambled egg is nice with a bit of grated cheese too

lulumama · 17/10/2006 13:32

egg, drop of milk, 30 secs in microwave, quick stir, then 15 secs or so more...it will cook a bit more after you take it out, so don't overcook or it will be rubbery!! and make more so you can eat too!

SoupDragon · 17/10/2006 13:33

Thanks.

Does it sweep up off the floor/wipe off table and clothing OK?

OP posts:
MrsSpoon · 17/10/2006 13:33

I do scrambled egg in a non-stick frying pan, egg, milk whisked up in a bowl. Melt some butter in the frying pan, bung eggy mixture in, leave for about a minute then rummel it up a bit, continue until cooked.

I always regret making it in the microwave as the egg never seems to come off the sides of the bowl ever again.

lulumama · 17/10/2006 13:34

absolutely--but soak whatever you cooked it in straight away !

SoupDragon · 17/10/2006 13:58

IWell, thought I'd found something she liked as she shoved in 2 chunks and allowed be to spoon in a coulpe more. But then lips-clamped-shut and shudders of horror She's now happily scattering peas and sweetcorn around the table/floor which seems to be her favourite mealtime acivity.

tomato sauce on clothes.....eeek! orange clothes for ever!!

SoupDragon · 17/10/2006 14:01

That's what the Halloween bib is for!

EnidVorhees · 17/10/2006 14:01

cant you just give her finger food and let her get on with it? carry on with bfeeding until she is 12 months, stop the shovelling in lark?

SoupDragon · 17/10/2006 14:03

Oh, Enid, I've tried. She's simply not interested in this eating lark beyond the first minutes. We're doing a bit of everything - BLW, spoon feeding, hoover it up off the floor... I'm not getting stressed about her eating it's just so boring and pointless when she's not excited about anything I offer her.

bored bored bored.

OP posts:
EnidVorhees · 17/10/2006 14:04

why dont you stop then?

just bfeed her for a week or so

lulumama · 17/10/2006 14:08

I've had this with babylulu- she did not eat properly until she was 11 months old......

i gave up and let her eat with her hands and gave her whatever we were having in the end.....and she eats so much better now..as soon as she starts messing with the food, it's out of the high chair and time for something else....

but it is soul destroying when your carefully prepared meal is dismissed with a snooty glare from your DC!!

i found sitting waving the spoon in her face the worst thing i could do...she eats with her hands now and i leave a spoon and fork on her highchair to start to learn ...

SoupDragon · 17/10/2006 14:10

Because then she wakes every 3 hours in the night and I'm knackered!

I'm not pushing her, just giving her the opportunity of food at mealtimes. Rather bored with thinking of what to give her to shred next though, coupled with the thought that her favourite food might be just around the corner if only I knew what to try....

OP posts:
nailpolish · 17/10/2006 14:11

let her pinch off your plate for a while

its much more appealing to them

finger foods are the way to go, better in every way

even resorting to spreading soup on toast, eating soup by dipping bread in it and sucking it off

SoupDragon · 17/10/2006 14:11

"carefully prepared" Snort!

BabyDragon seems equally unenamoured with spoon, self feeding and having small pieces put in her mouh by me. She tolerates or ignores each one randomly. Bless her little taloned toes.

oh dear....poor disillusioned mummydragon.......

DH insisted on taking DS to docs re her appaling eating..

doc sai words to the effect of

'she;s a girl, it;s a control thing...the more fuss you make, the more she will do it....'

i started ignoring the shredding & throwing of food and gave her finger food only to eat with her hands....and after a few days of being removed from the high chair having eaten nothing...she started to eat...

is she off milk too...

DD went off milk around this age and food as far too nosy and wanted to play and watch and learn rather than eat.....

EnidVorhees · 17/10/2006 14:19

dd2 had really really boring diet

banana porridge and sheperds pie

almost EVERY DAy for a month

she eats anything now
