Swiss roll and ganache hungry caterpillar

I want to make a hungry caterpillar cake for DD'S second birthday at the end of the month.

I made a yule log over Christmas and
it got me thinking that a plain swiss roll covered in dyed white chocolate ganache would be far more delicious than sponge and fondant.

But do you think it would work? A quick google suggests it is possible to dye ganache, and I've seen buttercream swiss roll caterpillars, but not both together. And how would I do the head?

I'd make the ganache with white chocolate (needs more choc and less cream than a darker choc one), and dye it - or have a brown caterpillar!.
I'd also whip the ganache slightly before filling the swiss roll.
Don't see why it wouldn't work.
Face... No idea. I have no artistic ability!

You can definitely dye white choc ganache. I find it's easiest with powder colours rather than gels or pastes, but they all should work.
For the head, if you want a 3d one, I'd probably use rice krispie treats (rice krispies and marshmallows mixed together) to mould the shape, then cover it either in chocolate (dyed white choc) or fondant.

You can always make a chocolate sponge and fill with whipped ganache THEN cover in fondant (that's how I always do choc cakes).

Thanks both, that's encouraging. I'm not sure I'm up to sculpting from rice crispies! I'll get some powder colours as I only have gel and I want the best chance of success.
