I'm so excited - my new raclette has arrived! Any tips, recipes etc (we are veggie)? Also, does anyone know which supermarkets sell raclette cheese, please?

Can't help about buying raclette cheese -except online or at French markets (as we did last WE!)
We put a bit of freshly sliced parsley and shallots on our cheese... or paprika ! We serve it with potatoes (skin on) and parma ham. We're not vegetarian.

MamaGhoul · 13/10/2006 13:28

what the hell is a raclette?

Molesworth · 13/10/2006 13:29

My thoughts exactly MG!

lulumama · 13/10/2006 13:29

is it like halloumi?

covenoveneer · 13/10/2006 13:30

Waitrose have raclette cheese but we often use ordinary cheddar.

nowanearlyNicemum · 13/10/2006 13:30

mmmm, not quite raclette weather yet here in Nice [very smug emoticon] but it's making my mouth water just the same

MamaGhoul · 13/10/2006 13:31

tell me now!

covenoveneer · 13/10/2006 13:32

A raclette is a heated stone used for cooking on. We chop up loads of veg and meat/chicken and you cook your own food (bit likedoing a fondue) melt the cheese and have it with bread or bakedpotatoes.

has LO arrived or am i confusing you with someone else??

and what is this miracle cheese??

MamaGhoul · 13/10/2006 13:32

do you cook the food on the stone thing or just melt the cheese?

misdee · 13/10/2006 13:33

we had to hunt for raclette for peter. waitrose larger stores stock it.

raceltte cheese is avery pongey stuff, you melt in it little plates under a raclette grill. peter likes it with crispy fresh french bread.

lulumama · 13/10/2006 13:34

ooooooooh. sounds very swish!

covenoveneer · 13/10/2006 13:34

no confusion, it's me and I'm still here waiting.... aaaarrrrggghhh

it's not really a miracle cheese - it's just the RIGHT cheese to be used for this particular culinary delight. no idea where you would find it in the UK but some delis are bound to stock it.

covenoveneer · 13/10/2006 13:36

It makes for avery easy meal when you have guests. Just chop everything up into bowls (marinade the meat/fish/chicken if you want to), bakepotatoes then bung it all on the table and it's DIY.

covenoveneer · 13/10/2006 13:36

WAITROSE.

lulumama · 13/10/2006 13:36

nowanearlynicemum...hang on in there! sending positive labour vibes your way....

covenoveneer · 13/10/2006 13:36

And Sainsburys to iirc.

MamaGhoul · 13/10/2006 13:37

TitianRed · 13/10/2006 13:39

Thanks, everyone! Think we will have some new potatoes and crusty bread and cook up some peppers, mushrooms and courgettes. I might crack open a jar of cornichons too. Oh! What an exciting life I lead!! (BTW my raclette is a Tefal one and I bought it from the cookery Mecca that is Lakeland for £29.99!!) x
