Yorkshire puddings

I used to make the most wonderful Yorkshire puddings without any effort.
One day they went wrong and ever since they've been a disaster so I use frozen Hmm
Today I decided I'm going to try again.
I only have self raising flour. Will it work?

I don't know. One tip is hot oil, hot oven and hob. Have baking tray on hob when you put batter in oil.

Not sure about self raising flour. For me what makes it work or not is a decent sized egg, a whopping egg or two small ones makes a great YP.

I use 3oz flour, 1 egg, 60ml milk, 50ml water - rarely fails.

HmmIt didn't lol. Fanks

We're they flat?

Ihavenobrain · 22/12/2014 09:39

Yep. All thick like cakey looking.
But I got some plain flour and made 12 magnificent puds! Grin

Did you do lavender recipe OP?

nic013 · 29/12/2014 10:37

I always add a little bit of baking powder

southeastastra · 29/12/2014 10:45

use plain flour. I always use two eggs sieve the flour and whisk the lot with an electric whisk. not sure how much milk I use just bung it on so its not too runny

fatherpeeweestairmaster · 30/12/2014 14:52

Try whisking 2 eggs with 300ml and leave for 15 mins. Then whisk in the plain flour till it's a runny consistency, add seasoning. Make sure the fat's hot in the tins, too, before you pour in the batter. I think it's a Nigella tip but it does actually work (for me, anyway!)

I make mine the way my nan taught me.
In a clear straight glass or jug break your eggs 2or 3.
Put your finger in the flour and mark the outside of glass where the eggs reach.
Tip into bowl.
Now using flour marker fill glass with milk to same volume as eggs then tip into bowl.
Same with flour.
Basically equal quantity of egg plain flour and milk.
I have scaled it to 12 eggs and works every time.
Never use oil.
Always let mix stand for min 1 hour.

Plain flour, half water half milk. Don't over mix them either. They just need a quick beat with a fork and leave them to settle. Get your fat really hot. Job's a good 'un!
