My brother and SIL are coming over tonight so we are going to have takeaway, but i need to cook for the girls.

Can any of you help me out with a yorkshire pudding mix? I want to do individual yorkshires with sausages and veg for them, but want some yorkshires left over to freeze.

This will be my first attempt at yorkshire puds so PLEASE tell me its easy!

4oz plain flour 8 oz milk, pinch salt and 2 eggs!
make a well in the flour and salt add the egg and whisk in the milk until its a batter. Leave to stand for about an hour.

Heat about a teaspoon of oil in each bun tin if doing small ones at 220 or gas 7 until smoking. Pour in the batter bake for 5 mins then turn the heat down to 200 or 6 for another 15 mins, Voila!

Genuine Yorkshire recipe from Yorkshire lass too!

It is! Oven needs to be very hot and you musn't open it until they have had 20 mins! Another tip is to add a small amount of iced water to the batter just before you put into the oven, supposed to make them rise more.

S.R. Flour (4oz) 2 eggs and water to mix, just like when you make pancakes. (whisk the eggs really well too)

Don't make the mixture and use it straight away, always leave it to settle.

Get the tin you will use to make them in, and put little chunks of lard (this is what I was taught, you may prefer a healthier option but I don't know if it'll work) in each individual tin.

Place in hot oven until they are spitting hot.
Have your mixture in a jug ready to pour in.
Pour in not too much, but just enough, you'll know when its right.

Shut the door and leave them, until risen and golden brown. Not sure on the temp, I bet someone else will know that.

Good Luck, I've only ever managed them once, I am from Yorkshire originally, and still can't make them! I get mine in a frozen packet .. oh the shame!!

Have a few practise runs... you could always use the mix for pancakes if you have any left over!!

Its because you are using sr flour! It has to be plain mumutuks. Sr won't work right!

mumatuks · 11/10/2006 10:16

sorry I thought I'd changed that to plain... I was watching peppa pig whilst typing and got distracted...

HowwwlidaymumsHauntedCruises · 11/10/2006 10:19

Oil works as well as lard, beef dripping is the best though! Stick to vegetable oil though tis easier!

mumatuks · 11/10/2006 10:22

I'm going to give that a try, off out to get the shopping now so will buy in the ingredients for Sunday lunch.

Good luck JARM, I'm sure your girls will love 'em.

I'm off to hand me Yorkshire passport back in, I 've failed miserably!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 11/10/2006 10:24

oh my word - im shaking at the thought of this! Im not a good cook, DH being a chef, i usually let him do it, or i use the slow cooker!!

Will report back tonight once i have done them!!!

You'll be fine! Good luck! You could always do a practice run?

JodieG1 · 11/10/2006 12:46

I don't measure the ingredients out but go with what looks right and mine always come out lovely. I use sifted plain flour, milk, 2 eggs, pinch salt and a dash of olive oil mixed together until looks like single cream consistency. I used to leave it to stand but don't anymore as it makes no difference to the outcome. I fill each hole of the tray with oil and brush it all around so they are fully coated and put in the oven until hot and smoking, then fill to brim with mixture and cook for about 20 mins at 200 on a fan assisted oven. Sometimes I add some sage and onion to make difference flavour ones and they are nice too.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 11/10/2006 12:48

ok i will admit it - i went to the shop for milk.... and came out with aunt bessies! OOOOOPS but im really not in the mood to play today! Will do it on sunday for lunch though - i promise!!!

If you want the Yorkshires to go nice and crispy on the bottom add a little pepper to each individual section in the tin before you heat the oil/lard.

I also use half water and half milk when I make them as they're less likely to stick to the tin if you put some water in the mixture.

Hope this helps
