Do I need to buy a proper garlic crusher to do it or is there another way?

TIA

you can put the blade of a knife on it and give it a good whack or 2. or you can just finely chop it.

madmarchscare · 09/10/2006 15:55

just chop it into teeny tiny pieces and then squash it with the back of a fork. Well, I would anyway.

You could bash in a mortar with a pestle if you have them. (or is that the other way round?)

i agree with sobernow re crushers. I jsut use a fine grater.

oxocube · 09/10/2006 17:48

add some coarse salt when you crush it to stop the knofe slipping and get a good grip on the slippery garlic!!

TwigTwoolett · 09/10/2006 17:49

do you really not own a garlic crusher

ooo I love kitchen gadgets

how can you not own a garlic crusher?

aDadOnMumsnet · 09/10/2006 17:50

dont succumb! Dont buy a crusher, they're just a pain to wash up and unnecessary, as has been said...

iota · 09/10/2006 17:51

we have 2 garlic crushers ( different models)

iota · 09/10/2006 17:51

ne of them stones cherries and olives as well

oxocube · 09/10/2006 17:52

knofe??? knife, even! And I don't have a garlic crusher either. What's the point?

GeorginaA · 09/10/2006 17:53

My garlic crusher is great - it has this plastic bit that when you close the arms the other way, pushes out all the bits of garlic stuck in the holes

(sad kitchen gadget afficionado)

TheBlairAitchProject · 09/10/2006 17:57

a broad flat knife does the job. if you smuch it then put a tiny bit of salt on it before smushing it again it goes into a pulp. that's what the best chefs do, apparently (saw it on the telly).

iota · 09/10/2006 17:58

Georgina - is it one of these ? We have one of them too

I have a garlic crusher. Comes clean fine in dishwasher.

GeorginaA · 09/10/2006 18:16

That's the one, iota Damn fine gadget.

GeorginaA · 09/10/2006 18:18

(if only I could get a gadget that grates lemon rind without getting more thumb in it than lemon, I'd be laughing)

A grater - that's my problem, isn't it? What's a zester look like then?
