Have borrowed neighbour's bread machine to try out and have some wholemeal flour and yeast. Have made some nice-looking bread but it's not exactly tasty . Can anyone give me a recipe that will convert me and make me buy my own breadmaker please?

My breadmaker recipe for wholemeal bread ...

1 lb wholemeal flour
1.5 tsp salt (I used to reduce this, or you can leave it out)
3 oz brown sugar (I used to use 1 oz though)_
3 Tblsp skimmed dried milk
1 oz butter / marg
2 tsp yeast

It used to be quite nice, but I admit I haven't made it for ages!

you need to put in a third white flour and add some seeds to make it a little lighter and tastier ,

I add a tablespooon of honey (rather than the sugar specified in the recipe) and some sunflower seeds - a mix of wholemeal, white and granary flour is nice too. Basically you can add a mix of flour as long as it measures up in total to the amount specified in the basic recipe.

Use dove farm malthouse flour its scrummy! Lighter if you use half white half wholemeal or the malthouse

Go to supermarket. Buy packet of wholemeal bread mix "suitable for breadmakers". Chuck into breadmaker with correct amount of water. Switch on breadmaker. Voila!

It's inevitable that breadmaker wholemeal is heavier and chewier than shop bought which imo is a good thing! However, I agree with Elclose, white flour and seeds make it much tastier.

Agree with everyone who says mix in a third or so white flour - that's what I've got in the breadmaker at this very moment. And some interesting seeds can make it more interesting.
You may want to cut down the water by a couple of tablespoons if you do that, though, as wholemeal flour tends to absorb more water than white (IME).
