Weaning - 6 month Old not interested in solids - help!

Hi, I am new to Mumsnet and fascinated by the discussions. My dd 6 month old is not interested in solids and I am a little concerned. I have been trying to give her 3 meals a day for about 4 weeks, but she's just not bothered, sometimes too tired (not a good sleeper or napper!) and others just not keen at all - should I be worried??

Katieh, Just to say I have a 14 month old dd. She was not at all interested in food until about 8/9 months 'hto I started on weaning at 6 months. Even now dd eats v little compared to othewrs but is happy, lively and extremely active.
I am fond of the old saying' you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink'. I constantly try things to tempt her and she has got better but is still not brilliant. It is disheartening to throw food away, but i persist!
Best of luck!

Don't worry. Fashions change in weaning. In the 20s it wasn't until nine months. As long as she's healthy she'll be fine.

Thanks for the advice... maybe I am worrying unnecessarily - she certainly is generally happy and v. active! Will keep trying without stressing!

One of my friends said to me when I was introducing solids to my DS that: For a long time it will seem that you are forcing every spoonful on them but before you know it you won't be able to shovel it into them fast enough - and eventually she was right! Mine wouldn't have any rice mush and was almost entirely on puree vegetables, especially carrot and pumpkin (not together). I also didn't start giving him solids at breakfast till we got the hang of lunch and dinner. Just hang in there.

My 10 month old has only been eating solids from a spoon for a fortnight. I tried between 4 and 6 months but she would make herself sick rather than have a spoon in her mouth. I was advised to stick with finger food which was messy but she accepted. I gradually tried the spoon again until finally she would eat a whole petit filou (how do you spell that) and then tried savoury. She has gone from 5 bottles a day with the odd bit of finger food to eating the same as us and just 2 bottles in 2 weeks. I did worry to start but now having missed out the whole puree stage seems a positive advantage aND she'll eat anything (at the moment!)

I did try a bit of crust with her today and she was fascinated - it kept her happy for at least 20 mins - chewing, dropping, picking up again... which at least gave me time to concentrate on no.1 dd's breakfast. She does drink a lot of milk so I think I need to be patient and just try lots of different things, textures etc...
thanks for the advice!

My ds2 isn't interested in puree foods. At first I thought it was food in genral because's he's only 4.5 months. But I've since discovered that he likes foods which are lumpy and have real taste. Tonight he had carrots, turkey and gravy mashed up but not blended. He ate loads and kept it all down. I've even started buying the jars of 7 months food for convenience.
