I have never used lentils before but they are often mentioned on MN. So I bought a packet of dry lentils. I want to add them to a casserole dish I am cooking today.

Do I cooke them first as per instructions on the packet in a sepparate pan ( boil for 10 min, skim the foam then cook for further 30 min)then add to casserole dish and let them cook some more in there

OR
do I just add them dry to the caserolle???

Give them a good rinse in a sieve to get rid of any dust and then add to the casserole at the adding stock stage. Make sure they are soft before serving - takes about 40 minutes of gentle simmering.

i use red split lentils and add them to everything i possibly can!! Just chuck a hand full in when i am adding the stock and they are done after 20 mins simmering

Many, many thanks!!
unfortunatelly they are green so I'll prepare them first. I didn't even know lentils came in red and brown!

Dont bother i have used all different colours for years and never precooked them, just add at stock stage and test to make sure they are soft before you serve, the red are great in a soup.
Lastnight we had green added to a sausage cassarole it took about an hour.
