Cappuccino · 05/10/2006 12:31

gravy with redcurrant jelly and mustard and marigold bouillon

mash or polenta

with some veg (usually tipped in a gourmet manner from a bag out the freezer into the gravy - peas best)

this a family fave

oh I want this now bugger and I only have cheese in the house

maggiesmama · 05/10/2006 12:32

i cook them in a pyrex or similar, and bout halfway through i add a splash of wine, wait for it to cook the alc off , then chuck in some chutney. it coats the sausages makes them sticky and makes a great sauce.

really good with any pots, esp mash (with caramelised onions, or parmesan) or dauphanoise...

Cowboy casserole from the Dinner Lady book.

the way she does it its just bacon bits, sausages and baked beans, but I extended it to include carrots and onions and a tin of tomatoes.

children thought they'd died and gone to heaven.

we've got the same for tea. I'm slicing lots of pots thinly with a mandolin and putting them in the bottom of a lasagne dish. Brown the sausages and if you have it a bit of chopped bacon. Soften some onion and garlic in a pan too with the bacon. Put the onion, garlic and bacon mixon top of the potatoes. Place the sausages on top and pour on some veg. stock. Bake for an hour or so. V. scrummy.

Howwwwwlidaymum · 05/10/2006 12:52

Make a really really nice rich caramalized onion gravy and serve with veg and mash.

bottersnike · 05/10/2006 12:58

Stirfry them with onions, garlic, tomatoes and a dash of chilli.
We have a little bit of pasta with it and it's yummy.
I would love to make fresh ravioli to go with them, but my pasta skills just aren't up to it yet.

TwigTwoolett · 05/10/2006 12:59

brown 'em, throw em in casserole dish with tin tomatoes, tin heinz baked beans, tin chickpeas, mixed herbs and casserole for about an hour

oliveoil · 05/10/2006 13:08

we used to have this allllll the time and got bored of it, but it is v nice

Queenmummy · 05/10/2006 13:11

For a change, you can remove the sausage meat from the skins, chop it up and use it in a pasta sauce. Fry onion and crushed garlic clove, chuck in sausage meat to brown, add other veg (e.g. sliced mushrooms, green pepper and tin tomatoes), add some herbs - thyme is good - and simmer for about 20 mins. Serve with pasta - traditionally rigatoni with sausage meat I believe.

hermykne · 05/10/2006 13:13

slice some apple and red onion put the whole lot in a casserole/gratin dish and put in oven for about 40mins, covered, the apple juice should provide enough liquid so they dont stick.

with potatoes

Queenmummy · 05/10/2006 13:59

Another pasta idea - slice the sausages into rings. Fry a sliced onion, add sausages to brown, add some mushrooms. When all cooked, stir in a couple of tablespoons of creme fraiche and a heaped teaspoon of wholegrain mustard. Then stir in some cooked pasta (or serve over rice). Voila - nice creamy, mustardy, sausage sauce

dreamcatcher · 05/10/2006 14:45

Roughly chop some tomatoes and mushrooms and put them in a casserole dish with the sausages on top.
Tip over a tin of lentil soup (veg will do) season and drizzle with olive oil.

Bung it in the oven till the sausages are done.

Serve it with crusty bread.

We live on this in the winter!
