I don't buy them very often but usually just wrap them in foil and cook them in the oven? What can I do to give them a bit more flavour?

how long do you cook them for Twototango and on what temperature?

have wanted to try tuna steaks myself so will watch this thread with interest.

brush with oil, sprinkle salt, pepper, maybe chilli flakes
then fry or (best option) griddle. 4/5 mins first side, 2 the next. don't want to overcook, it should be slightly pinkish in the very middle.

maggiesmama · 05/10/2006 11:06

you can marinade them in a bit of sesame oil, ginger, garlic and lime juice., not for too long. the lime will help to cook them. then cook them on the hob in a REALLY hot pan (griddle is good, or a normal frying pan.) the sesame oil should, er, lubricate them. you might want a smidgen more. put in and turn when first side is gold (1/2 mins) turn and repeat, then remove from heat. should be pink in the middle. remeber it will contiue to cook when you remove it from the heat anyway. but you can cook it through if you want, though it will be dryer.

i usually serve with wilter greens/noodles/salad and some toasted sesame seeds. yuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy

Thanks for those recipes - chilli flakes sound good i've never used them.
risingsun - I usually just put them in the middle of the oven, gas mark 5 or 6 - but I think I may be overcooking them and drying them out. Next time I cook them I will be using the griddle and a combination of bakedpotatooooowoooh and maggiesmama's marinades - they sound delicious but simple.

I love tuna steaks. I have been doing wrapped in foil in the oven, but tried pan frying them this weekend and they were much better, more moist.

I will try the lime juice and garlic marinade I think. The chilli flakes sound good too.

I do find them very filling, so tend to just do veg with them, no potatoes or rice.

I generally marinade them in olive oil, lime juice, coriander and chilli - flash fry - I like them very lightly cooked...

oops a bit impatient so pressed post a few too many times.

DH marinades in Dark Soy Sauce/Grated Ginger for an hour or so - Then fried - very hot pan, to leave the outside nice and toasted and the inside rare. I love this with a bit of Wasabi on the side and with Stir Fried Veg and Noodles.

Has anyone ever cooked them in a George Foreman Grill - how long did they need?

OP posts:
TwoToTango · 06/10/2006 10:49

George Forman anyone?

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 06/10/2006 10:53

no, I normally fry them aswell

I usually cook them in oil with chilli flakes, garlic and onions.

hulababy · 06/10/2006 10:54

Approx 1.5 minutes done in the George. Don't over cook them as they dry out, leave them a little pink inside. Check after 1 minute as timing depends on the thickness of the steaks.

I love them as they are. I never do anything ore than spinkle with a little black paper and a squeeze of lemon.

TwoToTango · 06/10/2006 11:19

Thanks both
