What can I use it for and how do I cook it!?
Does it have to be drfrosted first?

I put it into soups, stews, casseroles, curries & pasta sauces as an additional veg.
Usually just put a couple if the blocks in at a late cooking stage.

I'm sure you could defrost it & squeeze the water out & use for an omelette or something..?

I was thinking omelette...

I use the frozen whole leaf stuff and stick it in a jug in the microwave for couple of mins at half power. Then use a slotted spoon to press it hard and squeeze excess water out. Then add it to curries or pasta sauce or splodge it around as a layer in a fish pie/lasagne. Or just season it generously warm it up properly and use as a side. When I ate dairy I would stick a knob of butter on it and mix it through. Good with scrambled eggs for breakfast.

I use the Sainsbo's stuff which comes in little pellets.

I've used it in omelettes before but it's not great as it's rather sticky so the omelette isn't v easy to turn. It's fine if you defrost it and then stir it into a quiche mix. It's brilliant shoved into soups, stews, curries etc.

It won't stick because the spinach is layered on top of the egg.

Mrsgrumble · 13/10/2014 19:09

I use frozen spinach a lot. Mainly stews or as a side with carrots and meat and potatoes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/10/2014 19:10

Terrors - that looks interesting, and non stick unlike when I just mixed the spinach into the beaten eggs.

Badvoc123 · 13/10/2014 19:14

I will try that thank you!
Which soups do you add it to btw?

I use it in saag aloo or aloo palak, just add some of the lumps/pellets into the saute pan as your simmering the potatoes and it melts in about two minutes, you do have to keep stirring it though and making sure you have enough oil in the pan. Really quick and easy meals

I live on frozen spinach omelettes! I don't turn them, but when I think it's pretty much cooked put under the grill to rise a bit then it slides perfectly onto the plate. Yum. (I have never thought of defrosting the spinach either, just cook it with whatever other veg is going in before pouring the beaten eggs over once it's all soft and hot.)

I chuck a few blocks into curries, pasta sauces, chilli con carne etc... Barely notice it's there but glad for the extra nutrients!

I made a nice soup at the weekend. Sauteed diced carrots, onion, potato and a couple of garlic cloves. Added ginger, mustard seeds, turmeric, cumin and half a red chilli. Added water and red lentils and cooked until nearly done then added 4 lumps of frozen spinach and cooked until done then added half a squeezed lemon and s&p. Blended. It was much nicer than its humble ingredients would suggest.

That soup sounds good remus might try that adds frozen spinach to shopping list
