How many Easter Eggs!?!

Hulababy · 11/04/2004 08:43

DD is only just 2 but already has recieved 5 Easter Eggs this year. It is going to take her weeks to get through them - unless mummy and daddy help! And this number has already been limited as we asked grandparents NOT to get any. If they did want to get something we asked them to get non-chocolate stuff, like a book or soft toy.

Hi Hula - dd was just one when she had her first "proper" easter and like you I asked people NOT to get eggs for her. Unfortunately everyone thought that they were the exception to this rule so I packed up the 13 she got that year and took them to the children's hospital. The next year (just 2) she received 9 after requesting no eggs again and I too took them to the children's hospital. The next year she had 2!!!

I've never actually counted how many eggs they get and I've never had the problem of making them last because, when they were smaller (the children , not the eggs ), dh would scoff most of them. Now, when pestered as to whether they can eat their eggs, I just let them get on with it. The sooner they are gone, the better so I'm not tempted to help out. If they make themselves sick, that's their lookout and I've told dh (who buys most of the eggs anyway) that clearing up is his responsibility. It's never come to that though.

lou33 · 11/04/2004 10:30

Mine are allowed 2 each. They will gorge themselves until sick otherwise.

emsiewill · 11/04/2004 12:25

mine have had 1 small buttons one each from school and some chocs from grandparents. I will let them finish all the egg today and the chocs tomorrow. Then they will be gone and no more pestering. Then we go to the dentist on Tuesday!

emsiewill · 11/04/2004 12:26

In the past have asked all relatives not to buy eggs, and the message is starting to get through (after 7 years) so they have had other gifts / money instead - I much prefer it that way

hercules · 11/04/2004 12:53

Ds still gets bought lots of eggs no matter what we say and he's 8. Tbh one is really enough. He doesnt have a sweet tooth and dh and i always end up eating them.

samwifewithkid · 11/04/2004 14:26

Last year dd was 3/4 of a year at Easter and I told people not to get her any, I got moaned and grumbled at how awful I was by my relatives. She managed to get 1. This year I thought they'd realise the same rule applies and she has managed to get 6 choc type pressies including 3 big eggs and 3 presents with small chocolate attached. So still fairly awful, but a few people did realise and made an effort to get little things. The thing that amazes me is the merchandising, I think Easter is a massive con and just another reason for the big companies to make money. Still dh and I are managing to eat some of the chocolate to help it disappear more quickly as I don't keep it in the house normally. Not good for our waistlines either!

emsiewill · 11/04/2004 14:30

My friend at work was horrified when I told her I don't buy my children anything at Easter. But I just can't see any reason - they have everything they need (and 50 times more), they get presents galore at birthdays and Christmas, and as they live far away from grandparents, they are spoiled rotten by then when they see them. It's madness if you ask me.

Nutcracker · 11/04/2004 14:33

My kids had 4 eggs each.
We brought the two dd's a scooter each and ds had a ride on/in car.
My dad gave them 5 pounds each to go in their money boxes and my mom brought dd's a little bag each and ds a t'shirt.

I would much rather people brought them something else than chocolate really too.

shireen got 1

musica · 11/04/2004 15:38

We got ds (2.10) a small chocolate buttons one, and a new engine for his brio track. Dd (8 months) got an ELC Pudding Club ball. But that was all - we just told people that if they got him eggs he would not be allowed to eat them, so they didn't!

We're mean.

Tex111 · 11/04/2004 15:49

I'm American so any excuse for a celebration! DS who is 20 months left out his Easter basket last night and the Easter Bunny filled it with a Bob the Builder egg, a construction hat, a dump truck and loads of little chocs. Of course, DH and I are more than willing to help eat them (we also got a big choc egg each from the 'Easter Bunny'.

DS had his choccie egg with his breakfast this morning and will probably nibble away at the rest of it for the next few weeks.

nightowl · 12/04/2004 02:04

have been trying to downsize this for years...have bought ds one egg this year (a bloody expensive one at that) as he still had LAST YEARS in the cupboard! dd (3 months) got a wobbly chicken teddy as i didnt want to leave her out.

DDs (nearly two and nearly four) got 3 medium-sized - none of which were from us. I got them some sticker books (wanted to avoid chocolate but don't want Easter to start looking like Christmas or birthdays, heaven forbid) and we had a mini-egg hunt round the house - they found about 5 each I think. The big q though for me is - let them eat it all now, or a bit at a time (which has the risk of being habit-forming coz that would mean some every day for eons)? and then should I "help them out" - bad for my waist-line and not really what granny intended but better for them...

grumpyzebra · 12/04/2004 22:50

Between us, DH, DS, DD and I got 3 total -- all from Grannie, and I actually think that's too many!
But, I am the Original Food Nazi.
Not counting some little ones from Easter party at Playgroup, though.

grumpyzebra · 12/04/2004 22:51

Oh, and 2 airplanes (DS) and a new (from the Charity shop) swimming cozzie for DD.... and 2 rides on motorbike-thingies for DS at the Clacton pier... we aren't complete meanies!

mumeeee · 13/04/2004 00:13

My 3 DDs aged 12, 14 and 17 ended up with 4 each. They dont eat much chocolate at other times. I just let them eat their eggs every day until they are gone, they are old enough to know when to stop. I dont agree with buying expensive Easter Presents. I have told them we are going back to healthy eating next week. When they were little we did help them eat their eggs!

Thomcat · 13/04/2004 12:57

I've given all of ours / Lotties to a local club run through the health visistors for young single mums and theiur kids.

Thankfully lots of people bought her a non-chocolate gift this year, which is what i did for all the kids.

emsiewill · 13/04/2004 15:00

My friend at work informed me today that her ds (8) got 17, yes, 17 eggs. Of which 3 were from her. This really is madness.

tinyganghq · 13/04/2004 15:43

Last year my 3 had 7 each - 21 easter eggs!!! It felt like we'd been invaded by the damn things and they eventually went all white and spotty. Pleaded with everyone to go easy this year and it's been much better. They've had a bit of chocolate but also some lovely little presents - new sparkly swimsuits/ pretty socks etc instead, which is great
