We do eat fish, but served with breadcrumbs. Not exactly very healthy . Any other ideas that are not too fishy?

We have salmon with pesto and parmasan topping

Or sea bass seared in pan with salt/ olive oil and lemon juice - takes minutes

Fish pie is my favourite. Poach salmon, smoked haddock, cod off cuts and prawns in a creamy sauce (ok not healthy) and add peas, sweetcorn and a couple of hard boiled eggs. Top with mash and cook in the oven like a cottage pie. YUM.

We've recently started having a fish curry called meen molee, which is absolutely delicious, and I say that as someone who isn't always keen on fish or curry. DC wolfs it down in enormous handfuls too.

I think fish can be harder to add to a childs diet the later you start. I'm not a big fish eater, but wanted DD to be better than me.

We started with a simple fish pie made with just Cod
Then I added smoked haddock
Then I added prawns
Then I added salmon

It worked because it was introduced slowly I think. Now I can do fish steaks with different butters and seasonings and she knows that she's had them before. She still find tuna steak too 'fishy', but will eat sushi, scampi, mussels and prawn linguini when we are out (all things that are a little beyond me!) and we all love "Yellow fish and butter" (smoked haddock) with new potatoes and peas as a lighter tea.

We love hot-smoked mackerel (or salmon) with spaghetti. This feeds 4. Or if you're like us, two massive portions for me and DP and a child-size portion for DS Grin

Whizz up a slice of bread into breadcrumbs and fry in a tbsp of olive oil. Pop them on a kitchen towel when done. Put on 250-300g of spaghetti. Heat 100ml of extra-virgin olive oil in a pan on a low heat. This sounds a lot but this will be your dressing for the spaghetti. Gently fry two cloves of garlic and some chilli flakes (as little or as much to suit your taste). Drain the spaghetti and put this in a large bowl. Zest a little lemon into the oil, then immediately pour this onto the spaghetti and mix. Add a handful of rocket and flake in the fish (approx 250g packet). Mix again and serve, sprinkling the breadcrumbs on top.

We love making our own fishcakes with smoked haddock. The size of the fish cake varies according to the dc.

We've also tried potato Rosti with fish.

Do they like pesto? Mine will eat salmon flaked through pesto pasta. The strong pesto flavour helps to make it not too fishy.

And my super-fussy 2 year old would live on smoked mackerel pate. Just smoked mackerel mashed with cream cheese. A more 'fishy' type flavour but the smokyness takes that away a bit.

Google jack monroe's fish tagine recipe. Easy to make, has lots of veg in (plus fruit) and is delicious.

Smoked Haddock Chowder. Potatoes, milk, sweetcorn - recipes vary but overall a lovely warming, chunky "soup/stew". My kids liked it.

Vegetable rice with any fish flaked and mixed through it. worked for me most of the time.

I think fish and rice go together really well. Kedgeree?

MummyBeerest · 11/10/2014 20:35

Fish tacos! They can fill a tortilla with more stuff and still get the fish.

One of my school lunches and occasional comfort dinner even now was tinned tuna, chips and salad.

I cook salmon in a tinfoil parcel in the oven with soy sauce, honey garlic and ginger. You put sliced onions, red and yellow pepper in the parcel with it, and then serve with rice (I like it with wild rice).

Salmon with teriyaki sauce is good because it's quite a sweet flavour and the kids really enjoy it. I marinade the salmon and either bake it in the oven or cube it and and barbecue it on skewers.
