Fool proof Christmas cake recipe?

I hope I'm not lynched for asking about a Christmas cake in a non-Christmas section! But does anyone have a good recipe? I like baking, but I've never made a Christmas cake before. I don't want it too heavy and not too much alcohol. Thanks!

I'm in the same situation, looked through 'Nigella Christmas' cookbook this morning and think I'm gonna go with her recipe, seems fairly simple but have no idea if it tastes any good - her stuff normally does though!

I tried Mary Berry's one recently and it was very good - usually I stick religiously to the Delia one. Delia's is probably a bit heavier, but lovely.

Mary Berry's is great but it does need about 8 hours to cook!

I use a recipe from Caroline Blakeley's little Aga book. I've tried the Mary Berry ones, and we didn't like them. The other one really works well.

Nigel slater one is good (warning uses A LOT of dried fruit!) as is delia, although defected to Nigel from delia a few years back. Delia one is v traditional.

I use a BBC good food one called Simmer and Stir Xmas cake - it's very easy to make and not too heavy. I can't link as I'm on my phone but it's on the website.

Another Delia follower here - makes a fab cake - my first ever Christmas cake 5 yrs ago and ever since - and now I'm more confident I adjust the type of fruit so its perfect. Enjoy!

Thanks ladies, I might have to have a few test runs and see which works out best. I'll need to get an oven thermometer too, must put that on the list with the tonne of dried fruit...
