What do your children eat for breakfast?

With two young children (1 and 5), sometimes I feel very tired just thinking about what to give them at breakfast.

Could you pls suggest what to give your children, apart from sandwich/bread, etc?

Thank you

Mine like a big and preferably hot breakfast every day. Midweek I do quick scrambled eggs - basically a bashed up omelette - takes less than a minute to make and a favourite. Also pancakes can be super quick too - I do drop scone ones midweek- 1 egg makes 4 decent sized ones - I don't weight anything just put sr flour, egg and milk in a bowl- quick mix with a fork and you've got pancake batter. I cook them while I'm making myself a cup of tea. If I have quark I add a spoonfull of that to the mix - is very good in pancakes and ups the protein and nutrional value.

Does anyone do savoury/vegetable breakfast? I'm wondering about switching DD's meals around as she's starving in the morning but even if she has no snacks after lunch, barely eats dinner no matter what it is

I do avocado on toast sometimes and very rarely beans on toast.

Cereal

Usually the bad kind

Spoonme · 12/10/2014 20:03

Weetabix with mashed banana
Porridge with a squid of honey

Porridge with nuts/ fruits ( fresh or dried). Changes according to the seasons

Or

Poached eggs with mushrooms/ spinach/ beans/ tomatoes ( whatever's in)

On weekdays, it's usually cereal - choice of Weetabix, no added sugar Muesli, Shreddies or Raisin Wheats. Often with fruit.

Occasionally porridge or peanut butter on toast.

At weekends we sometimes have eggs or bacon butties or croissants or crumpets. And they have weekend cereal like Cheerios.

Cereal or bread-and-honey/jam on normal days. Croissants etc for special occasions but I haven't got time or awakeness to cook anything in the mornings.

NetballHoop · 14/10/2014 14:29

Toast, cereal and fruit every weekday morning, bacon & eggs and fruit on Saturdays and pancakes and fruit on Sundays.

DH makes all the breakfasts :)

momb · 14/10/2014 14:32

DD (10 ) has porridge with honey every day.
DD (14) just isn't hungry OK? (in a grumpy tone) and I am unreasonable for making breakfast options available to her.
At the weekends when we have the SDs too it's generally pastries and hot chocolate or something eggy or a full cooked.

CMP69 · 14/10/2014 14:38

DS is 6 and a creature of habit, so 99 days out of 100, cereal, we usually have 5/6 on the go (we all have cereal in the week). Currently cornflakes, cheerios, crispy minis, weetabix, porridge, museli, granola.
Occassionally at weekends pancakes, bread with jam/honey/banana. DH and I often sometimes have bacon or sauage sarnie with a fried egg

AdoraBell · 14/10/2014 14:48

Mine like -

Yoghurt, usually natural, with home made granola, fruit -usually frozen berries and chopped nuts.

Scrambled eggs/bacon/sausages
Home made pancakes - make in advance and warm in the morning, add topping of choice
Bircher muesli
Cheese on toast occasionally
Porridge with berries added after cooking.
Toast with Nutella or jam/marmalade on weekends

They also like cereals but I'm cutting back on it.

Feeling VERY precious about my PFB's breakfast...

Ilovexmastime · 14/10/2014 16:32

American style (ie fluffy) pancakes with honey/jam/banana/berries
Poached egg on toast
Fried egg and beans on toast
Scrambled egg on toast
Boiled egg and soliders
Porridge with banana and cinnamon
Museli with banana, berries and natural yoghurt

If they get up before me and are hungry then they can help themselves to cereal: weetabix, crunchy nut cornflakes, sultana bran or cheerios. Or normally a combination of them all!
