kids cutlery - when do you move away from plastic and do you use adult sized?

lo's are 7, 4 & 3 - and I'm still using the ancient old baby cutlery, some is metal with faded thomas and the like on the handles ie. toddler stuff and some is the plastic ikea range. I'm starting to wonder especially about my poor 7 year old dd, have I been embarrassing her when friends come to tea? What should they be using, adult sized seems too big, but I just can't afford those lovely designer kids metal ones like in the Urchin catalogue £15 for one set of each.

my 2.5 year old already uses adult cutlery (fork and teaspoon) and DS 5.5 uses full set knife, fork, spoon

really a 7 year old using a baby set?

ohhh crunchie I was just about to write your exact post - even down to the kids ages

Ds 5, has used "adult" cutlery for ages. Dd (2.7) uses small fork and spoon, both metal, or full-size fork if we are out. Would LOVE to use a knife. Haven't used plastic since weaning spoons. Although we do have the IKEA ones for picnics.

Another vote for desert knives and forks here (dd 3, ds 4).

quite surprised that a 7yo is still usintg baby cutlery tbh. I never really did baby cutlery after dd. They used weaning spoons, then went onto metal spoons and then adult cutlery. They have some cheap cutlery from Ikea which is smaller than our adult cutlery set. Ours are huge, and I even tend to use the dessert kinives and forks. I hate feeling like I am eating with a garden fork.

maybe this should be new thread but when do you let babies feed themselves? my ds is 10 months and loves finger food but i'm still spoonfeeding him most his food.

AT 10 months my DS refused to allow me to feed him so that answers that question! He ate a full Christmas lunch by himself albeit mainly with fingers.

DD used a teaspoon and adult fork on holiday with no problem. But we have the fruit spoons and dessert forks (which she actually prefers to the Studio cutlery sets) so she may as well use them.
